Calf elk distress calling

Anyone ever try this while cow hunting and if so what were your results? Any suggestions for using this tactic?

It works if its a high pressure area or if they have been shot at I would stick to short burst. I've watched elk regroup with there calfs after calling.

Works great if you jump a group of >10 or so.  They scatter and call to re-group.  Kind of like turkeys...

OK let me change it up a little. You know you are in an area that has some animals laid up would you use this tactic to get them up and get them headed in your direction? My thoughts being that getting them moving would give you the opportunity to see them before you walk into them. Thanks for the discussion thus far.

I ran right into a cow, 10 yards away, and she barked at me and started running away. She barked. I hit the Phelps call and did about 15-20 calf calls in rapid succession and she wheeled around and ran straight at me.

It can work to get them up just don't be aggressive nor give your position away.

Can also bring predators in. Brought a bear within 15 yds of my tree stand this year.
I was excited hearing it come in. disappointed when I saw it wasn't the elk I expected, but a bear.

I have had cows come in looking for the baby quite a few times.
