Youth Bow

I'm looking into getting a bow for my son - 5 1/2 year old.  Looking for more ways to get him involved in outdoors/hunting and of course just hang out together.  I measured his draw length at 16.8 inches (full wingspan divided by 2.5).  I'm looking to get into archery hunting myself for next season (I'll be shopping for me as soon as rifle hunting winds down - I want to have the whole off-season to practice/get ready).

Any ideas on what to get?  I don't want to spend tons.  Even something used would be great.  I don't want to get total junk and maybe something he could grow with for a while.  Also, he's a lefty.

mathews genesis is a great starter bow.  also look at the diamond infinite.

Check out the Matthews Mission Craze as well. Draw length may be to long for him at this point but this is a bow he could use well into his teenage years.

The Genesis bows are neat. The draw length will grow with him(not letoff, though) And I think that they are pretty inexpensive, although I haven't looked at one too recently.

Both my son's have the Mathews Mission and their friends own them as well.  A great bow that will fit them for many years.

I got a Mission Craze for my son when he was 8. Great bow and it can double as a back up for me in a pinch....

for my kids one got a Diamond Edge an the other one got a Parker Buckshot both worked great.
IMO I think the Diamond is a little better bow.
not sure if they still do but years ago when I bought my daughters Parker bow they had a youth program were you can upgrade the limbs

I started my son on a Browning Micro Midas 3. He still has it and may want to part with it. It is not a full size bow and you can only grow so much with it, but it is a great starter bow. It is all set up and comes with 3 arrows. PM me and I will get you some pictures. It is just sitting at home and my nephew is about 4-5 years out from learning to shoot.

All of the bows mentioned will work but at 5 physical weight of the bow itself should be considered. Good to hear of another younster getting into archery, heck of alot better than video games!

The new HOYT ignite! 15-70 pounds of draw, 19-30" of draw length, 8" brace height, 28" ata, and 300fps. Best beginner bow made today. And he can shoot it for years.

I guess I missed that the youngster was only 5. I am looking at getting my 5 year old a Diamond Atomic. Much smaller and less room to grow but a much more manageable bow for the little guys.... not super cheap but none of the above are either.
