What went wrong...
« on: November 13, 2013, 05:26:51 PM »
I missed a buck yesterday on my special permit hunt.  I'm more than willing to submit myself to some ridicule so as to prevent some other poor sap from making the same mistake I did. Basically once your gun is set up, don't mess with it. I decided to put Butler Creek scope covers on in case of bad weather. The objective lens cover went on hard but never did I think it would actually move the scope. It acted sort of as a wedge and lifted the front end of the scope up. What a dummy move I made. It cost me a nice buck and a coyote(sorry Team Admin). Anyway. Flame away. I've spent the entire day sulking around the house sick to my stomach.
This is what I finally figured out the problem to be.

This is what it's supposed to look like.

I took the scope cover off and it went right back to shooting the way it was supposed to.

Take it easy on me. This is a stupid mistake but maybe it will prevent someone else from making the same error.
Time for some Leupold Lumina covers I guess.

OMG! I feel like I want to puke for you. What a simple mistake at a crappy time. Hopefully you will be able to make up for it with a bigger buck.

Ouch!  I've missed before simply because I'm an idiot, don't feel bad.

It all happens to all of us at some point josh. It's amazing how the smallest of things can make all the difference in the world.

Good example is my cousin right before a muzzleloader hunt added a plastic bullet seating piece to his ramrod. Well it was longer then his gun and after riding in the truck it bent it up. So it was over a small amount of the bore of the gun. He got lined out on a really nice webby 3x4 with eye guard's and pulled the trigger. Easy 60-70 yard shot. Smoke clears and the deer is standing there. Then it runs off after he started reloading. That dang thing caught part of the bullet or sabot and sent it to god knows where. A little change saved that bucks life as well.

Dumb A**!!  How dare you let Team Admin down like that.  You should be ashamed!   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

IMO a guy that doesn't make mistakes never learns much.  How do you think I got so smart   Almost even got that typed without laughing ;) Good job in figuring out the problem.  I'd have probably sold the gun before I figured out that was the problem.  Hope you find the time to get out there again for some well deserved redemption.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Don't feel bad.

My buddy missed two bucks this year.

The second miss was understandable.

The first miss was because he took the time to radio me to say, "There's a buck in front of me!" after I instructed him, not less than 20 minutes ago, to "Shoot first, radio later."

At least you got a shot off.  Years ago I saw some camo wrap that was added to a rifle change the POI by a significant amount.  Yes, don't change a thing, other clean and oil.
