What are the chances of calling this bobcat in? Never predator hunted before really...called a couple coyotes and that's it....but I'm thinking about trying it out...would it be worth the $40 for the small game lisence and try?

The small game license will cost twice as much if you didn't buy it when you bought your big game licenses. It's about $18 if you get the combo deal, around $36 if you buy it later.

I didn't get the small game license one time because I didn't have the money and didn't know if I was going to need it anyway. Later my neighbor asked me to go goose hunting with him. I went online to buy the small game license and it was going to be almost $40.

I refused to pay that much so didn't get to go goose hunting.   :bash:
that friggin sucks, i never got checked by a gamie this year, but bet your behind had i shot a bobcat i surely would have been checked, its the law of pyhsycs isnt it or somethn :chuckle: what a crock, well i gotta buy one because that ecaller will be put to work this year, dude that reminds me, last year i used it and if a bobcat would have come in i would have killed it.... damn that would have sucked  :bash:

i think it would be worth it, i know i am gettn one, there are alot more bobies out there than a guy thinks, they are mostly a nocturnal critter, but from what i hear if your within earshot a cat will come in fairly quickly, but they also lose interest easy so you gotta do alot of loooooong sequences, which is where i think i went wrong last year or the good lord was lookn out for me for not havin a sg licence

They don't generally charge in like a coyote, after all, they are cats...quiet and stealthy.  But nothing is 100% always/every time, specially when it comes to critters and their behavior.

They may sneak in and sit and watch from cover for a long time, sometimes coming and going without the caller knowing it.   Since they sight hunters, good camo (daytime) and concealment of movements on your part are important.

An ecaller's speaker located away from where you are step-up and maybe some type of visual attractant like a bird wing, feather, anything that will draw their eyes towards it and the source of the sound and away from you helps.

The visual will also help with coyotes as well.

Pay close attention to the surrounding area, cover edges, etc...may only see a head or part of a face through cover.
It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity...

At least you got to see the spike trying to make love---not everyone can enjoy that and many myself included never have seen it. Your story sounded like a story from the movies--all the stuff we see out there is really priceless. :twocents: :twocents:
