Late buck tagged
« on: November 18, 2013, 12:13:58 PM »
Well, I hunted hard all early season and the majority of late season in 124. I made a few trips to 121 with some buddies, but only found does and spikes. It seemed like all my time in 124 was spent watching does or other hunters with no bucks to be found. I went out Saturday and walked my usual draws, did some rattling and cruised a few logging roads. Ended up seeing 2 does and a spike. The spike was on a dead run with no intent on stopping, offering me no shot. So we got up to our spot before daylight Sunday and drove up to our spot. I still hunted an old skid trail with no luck. We decide to sit and watch a clear cut that I shot my first buck out of in 2005. There had been tracks around so we figured we had a decent shot. We sat there for about 5 mins when I stood up to take a piss, that's when I saw a doe hauling through the cut. Soon after a buck came out right on her tail. I ran down to get in front of them. As soon as I rounded a corner in the trail I spotted this 3 point staring at me. I sat down for a rest on my knee and waited for him to turn. He started to turn so I lined up on his front shoulder and took the quartering to shot. He mule kicked at the shot and ran down into the drainage. The 300 wsm and 180 ballistic tip left me a hell of a nice blood trail and I found 50 yards from where I stood. It took me all season but I finally got it done. Not my biggest buck (or my smallest) but I couldn't be happier. Thanks for reading!
