sorel boots or other option
« on: November 18, 2013, 05:24:17 PM »
so i had a pair of sorels back when i was a kid and they were great. for the last 10-15 years i haven't had any and think they would be a good boot to have for late season hunting and blind hunting for waterfowl etc and just for snow days and when its really cold.  the issue is that i heard they were sold to Columbia and are now made in china like everything else and that the quality has slipped quite a bit. what are your thoughts and what is something comparable ? theses are the ones i was looking at .

I dont know what your budget is but Schnees as well as Hoffman both offer made in USA insulated pack boots.

2nd the Schnees. I used to hunt quite a bit in Montana in Sorels. One thing I have found is the ankle support sucks. your feet slide around in them a lot causing blisters. Lots of ankle fatigue if you sidehill any amount of time. Where as Schnees has a lot better support and if you get the taller ones there is a lot more water leakage protection. :twocents:

There are plenty of new and used Canadian-made Sorels on ebay.  I have two pair and love them for late season hunting.  They do not fit perfectly (no half sizes) but for $75 (including shipping) they are the best bang for your buck.
