I do put out hay for my camera.  Others have hunted over it, but I don't get too excited about it.

I wish I knew where this was  :chuckle:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

It is legal. What are the people against it trying to achieve?? Another hunting right taken away?? Guess it is way more fair shooting animals 500+ yards away with a $5000.00 rifle. :dunno:

Take baiting away and maybe more people would turn to road hunting.  :dunno:

I do not bait. Even fishing, for the most part I do not use bait.

I do not understand why so many at this site care so much what other people do.

It is so much more so "we eat our own."

It's to bad.

I can't believe were gonna do this again.  :bash:

It will be an endless debate over what everyone feels is the most "ethical" way of hunting based on opinions. Nothing will be gained over making baiting illegal other than another hunting privilege stripped. +1 for the antis.

Here is something that I learned this year: Make sure that your bait makes culinary sense to the targeted animals!

I spent the entire summer and early fall of 2013 lugging hundreds of pounds of apples deep into the woods (all on bicycle, several miles back), to place in front of my game cameras.  My daughter and I always downloaded the pictures with great anticipation, to see what critters had come to the feast.  We were surprised that the previous drop of apples were never completely eaten when we came to refresh them.  Only after the season did we learn the reason why: Our cameras are very deep in the mountains, far from any agricultural sites.  The animals there have never seen apples before; thus, they never touched our camera bait.

I learned this from a knowledgeable and kind gentleman, who told me that he once dropped a bale of alfalfa in the same area for elk, only to discover that the elk wouldn't touch the bailed green stuff.

The lesson here is this: Bring whatever bait you like (it is all legal, except if your quarry is cougar or bear), just make sure that they are familiar with your offerings.  Otherwise, you are waisting your time.

By the way, when I went to my super-secret spot during general elk season this year, the last round of apples were still there, perfectly frozen.  :bash:

its all legal except for cougar or bear?  if youre going to tell people what the laws are make sure you know them yourself.  baiting cougar is perfectly legal.  its all legal except bear and game birds

I stand corrected.  Thank you.

So I have been sitting in my office watching hunters head to the woods (Pend Orielle County) and my (very) anecdotal survey looks like about 30% of the obvious hunting vehicles have hay on them?  I know there are bait pile all over the place along the valley, but how many guys bait higher up?  How many of you guys feed/bait the deer??

I doubt they are baiting with hay. I would bet that most of it is straw for around camp.

Blacktail LOVE LOVE LOVE alder boughs.  Works better than apples I promise.  Put out some fresh cut alder branches and I promise they'll be stripped clean the next day.  Is it baiting if I cut a bunch of alder boughs off of alder trees that overhang a deer trail and let the cut branches sit on the deer tail?

So...build the blind out of alder.....got it :chuckle:
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright

Promise that when you came back the next day all you'd have would be sticks.  All the leaves would be eaten

I think alfalfa is what most people use on the eastside.

Alfalfa in camp?
I meant straw in camp for walking or sleeping on.

No I meant the alfalfa is what they use for bait. He said a lot of trucks have "hay" in them, which could be alfalfa hay, for bait. But then again, you're right, some of it could be just regular hay for in camp.

Worst thing about this site is everyone wants in on every one elses business........you leave me alone and I promise to leave you alone.......you want to give something away that others do within the laws, then we can turn this into a big rip and tear for everyone.............

Dont know why some of you guys do this crap every single year.......... :bash:
