.35 Whelen (7600 pump)
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:21:30 PM »
Hey all,

Just wanted to get some opinions on the .35 Whelen cartridge?

I've read nothing but good things so far so I decided to get one.  I wanted something different from the next guy and new I had to have another pump rifle in this caliber, especially since they don't make the 7600 in this caliber anymore.  I already have a Tikka.30-06, and Win Model 70 .300 Win Mag.  So this will be my last rifle purchase for sometime.

Anyways, I found one brand new in the box at kesselrings, I think it's from the 2005 special run.

Anyone else shoot this caliber?

Hellava round!! I had one built about 15 years ago on a Enfeild action, later, about 5 years later I bought a 700 bdl Whelen. Both shot good, killed my best bear with the Rem. I shot 225 Trophy Bonded Bear Claws with excellent results. Nosler is making a 225 BT specificlly for the Whelen that oughta work pretty good. Let us know if you buy er. Later

I'm a fan of all the 35's...358 winchester, 35 whelen, 35 remington...and even 357 mag rifles!
My girlfriend bought a 700 in 35 whelen this year and we are both big fans.  My boss and family did a african safari this last summer and bagged 30+ critters with the 35 whelen (on a pre-64 action)...after I saw the pictures of what they took down with it, I became a huge fan.

His favorite load was a 250 nosler partition.  I haven't been able to find them on the shelves, but I like the 225 nosler partition and the 225 sierra game king.  Others have told me they like the swift a-frames.

ENJOY!

Kurt

thanks for the feedback!

I've got it and it's ready for sighting in.  I through on a new scope on it and it is sweet!

Also, the stock is one of the darkest I've seen!   I went with the VXII 3x9x40 Matte w/Wide Duplex      I removed the rear sight, and had a front sling swivel put on the front forearm.  Don't care for the barrel band style.

First box of shells are going to be Federal Premium 225gr bearclaws.  :yike:
