Thanksgiving 2nd deer tag filled!
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:48:26 AM »
After a big disapointment on the early muzzy season and this 2nd deer tag, im happy to say the research I did on land payed of this morning! Killed this fat whitetail doe with my muzzleloader. Was a quick hunt I just wish I didnt fill my buck tag already. First time in years I was able to hunt with my dad and brother and we had a nice time. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Here is the story, and another picture.

We got to the land we were going to hunt a little before light and waited in the truck until it was light enough to see and headed out. As we approached the first draw a doe ran out and across the wheat field at about 300yds. We continued on slowly once we got to the edge. We glassed only to find nothing. We headed around the top of the draw on the fenceline east toward the 2nd draw. I spotted 2 deer in the field above it. After watching them we decided the best stalk would be for me to slip down the hill and come up the 3rd draw to the east and that would put me within 100yds. My dad and brother stayed back to watch them as I began the stalk.

I headed down the hill and quickly jumped a different doe. She ran into the draw below the 2 other deer so I beat feat to the edge only to notice the original buck and doe were in range. I began to sneak up to a small tree to get a shot when I saw the spooked doe run up the other side of the draw. I sat down and threw up the shooting sticks, she stopped about 120yds and I shot. She dropped like a sack of potatoes!  Called my dad and bro and they came diwn and we went up to her. Perfect shot through both lungs not ruining any meat. The traditions vortek with 150gr pyrodex pellets and 250gr t/c shockwave did the trick! Gutted her out and my dad drug her to the lower road while my brother and I went to grab the truck and meet him. On the way out saw 3 more bucks and a bunch of does. It was a great hunt!
