Knight Bighorn and No Excuses 460's + FFFg ?
« on: November 28, 2013, 08:44:52 PM »
Happy Thanksgiving all... I just converted to a Williams peep and fire sight front hood sighting system. I'm shooting FFFg for the first time with the 460's ( I live in Oregon) and wanted to know if I need a wad or not? A good starting point would be 80g of powder or so? Thank you for the help, MossBack

I shoo the same bullet over here in Idaho... I do use a wad actually a 'shot card' to keep the heat of t7 from melting the bottom of the bullet creating liquid lead in the bore.  BUT, today if I were shooting a 50 cal with a lead conical I would use a MMP 50 cal Sub-base... better seal and insulation against heat...

I shoot 90 grains of T7 - but most would tell you 70 works great...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

I have never seen that before. I will look into it. What is a shot card?

I am not sure that they are... I thought I read something about no plastic in the Oregon rule.

It is illegal to hunt with non-lead bullets, jacketed bullets, sabots and bullets with plastic or synthetic bases during muzzleloader only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/muzzleloader only.  Conical lead or lead alloy bullets with a length that does not exceed twice the diameter and lead or lead alloy round balls used with
cloth, paper or felt patches are allowed.

A Shot Card is an over the powder card...

This is the one I normally used..
