H and r single shot factory defect?
« on: November 30, 2013, 04:38:03 PM »
We bought 3 of the h and r single shots and two of them get the shells stuck after firing the shot. They sit flush in the barrel so you can't grab it and pull it out either. The problem is we didn't do the registration I don't think so they have been sitting in the safe. So do any of you understand why? You open the barrel and it is suppose to make a ping sound and she'll is suppose to fly out. Even when you don't fire the shell it will pop out but not like it is suppose to. What are your thoughts?

I have had one of those for over 20 years and love them.  Why don't you call H&R and see what they say.  I bet they will make it right.

Had a buddy that did cowboy action shooting. What he did to  make sure shells shot out EVERY time was take  a Scotch brite pad and cut it into 1 in stripps so that it fit into the cloth patch end for the shot gun cleaning rod. He put some oil on the pad and then put his rod into the drill. He then proceeded to "polish" the inside of his gun. He did this both on where the shell sat, and also in the barrel to smooth out the bore.. pound out the stuck one and give that a try. Hope that helps

I get what your saying about making it smoother to help a smoother ejection, but I'm not sure that would work because she'll is past the ejector and the ejector has nothing to catch to eject.
Thanks for the advice and I think I will use it for future use.
But, I think there is more to it.

Same thing happened to me. I took it back to where I bought it (Sportsman's Warehouse) and they sent it back to H&R. H&R fixed the problem, which was a bore in the chamber.

Special T's solution sounds like it would work fine if you don't want to wait a month for your guns to come back :P

I have seen video of guys with NO ejector that do this just so they can "shake" them out.

Another thing I see that might help for info about the problem is an unfired shell goes in loose. Try to get the fired shell out and it is really tight like it swelled due to pressure.

Ejector or no ejector these shell will not come out without a ramrod down the barrel.

I have one too and started having that problem about two months ago! I noticed when I shoot certain brands of shells they get stuck just like that! It is frustrating but i love that gun. Awesome little grouse guns

It sure does suck having to put a ram rod down the barrel after every shot. Even if a gun was cheap I shouldn't feel like I'm muzzleloading
