BH45 Late archery season ...SEASON OVER ....
« on: November 30, 2013, 04:56:27 PM »
Well I have been seriously hunting hard ....The 1st 2 days I seen 9 doe .. I have seriously covered some timber ...Deer are not showing themselves out in the clear cuts ...that I know ...So today I hike down this ridge of cedars and I am just moving slow and just hanging out ...I know the deer are here So I need to be patient ...It is raining cats and dogs but I am dry ...after about an hour or so I kept hearing something above be ..but its raining so hard I started to think it was the rain beating off the leaves ...So after a liitle while I decide to work my way back up the ridge ...and I see this  :yike: :bash: :bash: :bash:

It is now about 11am and I am soaked ...so now I am all peeesed at myself for not slipping up on the noise I was hearing ...I ready to head home then after seeing this I had to keep going ....I ease up the deer trail about a half hour later I walk up on a huge doe ...I stand there hoping he is with her but never saw him ..I keep heading up the ridge and I am now about 4 miles from my truck ..heavy timber and no road above me ...I keep following this well beat deer trail to this deer living room ...My heart is beating because I am thinking any minute now and I am going to see him ...I keep easing up slowly ...soaked to my butt ..and I look up ahead and find this >>>>

I would get some trail cams and apples out there to find out just how big he is. Those are some solid rubs. It sounds like you are into a lot of deer.

Well at least you can take a bath with tag soap in all that rain we are having!  :yike:

The rain has made it sweet for sneaking around but man a guy gets wet  :chuckle: I hunted pretty dang hard today ...can not say I did not give it my best ....I wish I would have found this a day or 2 sooner ...I have to work this week and it is going to kill me ..but I will be hard at it again in the morning ...now I have all my stuff dried out .. I could have killed some of the biggest does I have seen in awhile ...But I let them live for now ...after seeing this I have to try and stick him ....Seen most of the deer after 11am ...its always that way for me come late season ...have not seen 1 hunter anywhere ...its like the whole unit belongs to me ...  :chuckle: :chuckle: I love bowhunting  :dunno:

i was after a buck with very big rubs, had cameras on his rub line since about oct 25th.they have been done rutting since like the 13th or 14th here.no sign of him around his rub line since like the 10th, good luck. he should a nice buck.and if you don't get him,he will rut in the same area next year, you'll have him figured out by then.

Yes your right ...my wife killed a rutting buck at the end of October ...I am hunting up higher now ...these bucks rut a little later than low land bucks ...You can clearly see how fresh the horning is ...The 1st rub was made after I had passed threw the area  :yike: So I headed up hill to find the others ...you can clearly tell these rubs are fresh from the white shavings hanging from the tree ....I have to work now but I will hit it again hopefully around Thursday ....Only have until the 8th to whack him

hey if your looking for more bow hunters Ill be there. I've found a few out where I'm hunting. I'm thinking I may have busted my big buck out last week ran into him as I was sneaking out. He was about 6yrds. no shot... he let me know he wasn't to happy about it. I gave it a go in the same spot on tuesday evening didn't see anything moving. I wanna get back out there!

I would have hung 2-3 cams in that general area, packed in some apples and hung a stand.... bring the grunt tube/horns with you and go at... hunting BTs from a stand is the only way to do it with a bow IMO.... most effective for sure.

Well my problem is I can not stand being tied down ....I sat in a lot of tree stands in my life but when it comes to Blacktail I prefer being mobile .. I always been a stalker kinda hunter ...thats just the way it has always been for me...When I was about 14 my dad and I where hunting whitetail in PA and he sat me by this tree ..He tells me DO NOT MOVE ...You sit here and I come and get you at dark  :dunno: He also told me about 100 x before you are not killing these deer by walking around so just sit still and wait ....While from that day on I have proven him wrong many many times  :chuckle: :chuckle: anyways so that particular evening I did get up and was sneaking along the edge of the timber and a corn field ..not far from where I was sitting and all the sudden I HEAR SOMETHING IN THE CORN ...I stand still for a second and out pops this 7 pt  ...ACTUALLY A 4X3 Your count  :chuckle:  I remember this day like yesterday since it was my 1st buck with a bow ... I was shooting a Bear Recurve and the old bear broadheads with the bleeder blades ...this buck pops out at about 30 yrds and goes on point like a bird dog when he saw me but I was already drawing as he was coming out ....WHACK !!! He takes off !! I am in shock and shaking like a leave on a tree ....I instantly ran back to the tree to wait for my dad ....This story is long  :sry: :chuckle: Anyway here he comes ..I yelling dad dad I just shot one ...he is like WHERE  :chuckle: I SAY FOLLOW ME ...He then says where did you go ...I TOLD YOU TO SIT HERE  :dunno: It was not far anyway ...about 100 yrds from where I was sitting ...I get there and can not remember exactly where I was  :bdid: after about an hour of looking my dad is frustrated ...Finally I walked out onto a grade we had going threw this section of timber and I walked back and forth and finally ..BLOOD ....and lots of it ...I yell to to the old man to get over here ...Once he say blood he was more excited than me ...We go about 75 yrds and there he is ...1st buck down at 14 .....been many after too .... :chuckle: :chuckle: Just so you know it is 30 degrees this morning ! that's why I am telling you a good story ...I HAVE 3 DAYS LEFT ...not sure if they will be moving or not but I predict it will not get good until this afternoon ....We will see....I need meat so I will try to kill this buck but if I see a big fat doe she will be taking a dirt nap .....I have to have ground meat regardless  :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:

One more thing I do not own a trail camera ..BUT I will next year !!  and second I never baited a deer in my life and have no desire to start now  :chuckle: :chuckle: JUST ME NOW ...DO AS YOU PLEASE !

Not sure how this will turnout for me ... I hunted yesterday .... Pretty much all day ...the temperature was about 30  :yike: It was so noisy I could not slip up on anything ..So at about 9:30 I figured I would sneak as quiet as I possibly could up to the rub line of this buck ..I found the perfect funnel that is coming from his bedding area ...BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM was I could see a doe looking at me about 25 yrds I could only see her head ...I stay motionless for about 10 minutes ...she would not take a step ...I could not see any other deer because the ferns were about knee high and in some alders ..I finally made a move to see if I could get a different angle on her ...Soon a I moved she busted out of there ...and he was right beside her  :yike: :bash: :bash: :bash:  They did not blow completely out of the country because I could see them feeding around up on the ridge above me ..  These deer have devastated  the under brush already ...ALL the buds from the bush have been nipped off ... He is still horning up trees which is seriously surprising to me ....its been a week since I was in there and I found 2 more fresh rubs ...So I decided to scent the area up with some doe in heat ...put as fast as I layed it down it was frozen  :yike:  I could smell it when I 1st put in down then the smell just went away ...I am sure he can smell better than I can  :dunno: :chuckle:  I am in kill mode now anything except a yearling will have to take a dirt nap ....Never was a trophy hunter and never will be .. We depend on vension in our house hold  :dunno: :archery_smiley: besides I love to hear an arrow WHACK A DEER  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Well I better feed you guys some more bullsheet  :dunno: I can 1st say things were not meant to be for me that is all I know ..I have seriously gave it my all and not regretting anything about how this hunting season went ...My main goal was to get my wife on a good buck ...done that ... Now this will be a long story so for what it is worth I will have to tell ya like it is ....Last night I used almost a whole bottle of doe in heat scenting up the area  :yike:  I woke up this morning and it was frozen solid so I was not all that excited about trying to sneak into my spot quietly ....But since I only have until Sunday I had to get out there ...I get to my spot about at daylight and slowly work my way to where I want to be ...crunch crunch crunch  :bdid: :bash: :bash: I took a step about every 5 minutes trying to keep my noise to a minimum ..I finally get to where I can see the 1st rub and where I squirted a little doe in heat on the ground last night ..as I am standing there with no arrow knocked I see a butt heading toward the tree that is horned up ...I start to get out an arrow and  :yike: and out pops a head with a rack  :o :( as I start to draw my bow he disappears ....IT WAS A NICE ONE .... Well past his ears and tall ...I tried to get around him but not even possible ...I was sick to my stomach ...So now what do I do ... I head to the store to get a can of chew  :chuckle: and re-think what my next plan will be ...now you guys know I tell stories but what happens next is just pathetic ...I head to honey hole number 2...killed a few bucks here in the past but have not been there once this year ...As I head up the hill about 9:30 as usual horning everywhere ...my heart starts beating and I had a weird feeling something was going to happen ....I put my scent rag on a limb in front of me and hunkered in for 3 hours ...freezing my arz off I forced myself to stay as long as I could stand it ...after sitting there all that time I decide I need to move  :bdid: I take to steps out onto the grade and all hell broke loose ...deer taking off like jets  :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: now I am really frustrated ....I stand there for a few minutes just kicking myself in the butt ...I actually started for the truck when something was telling me to keep heading up the hill ...I am in the timber and now the sun is coming out ....I go about 1/2 mile or so stopping a lot and just listening to what was going on around me ...I keep creeping up slowly when I look up to my right I see a doe laying on a rock ...right in the sun ...Now I am thinking what should I do ...whack her OR let her walk ...well I let at least 1/2 dozen walk already and I am telling myself if I let her walk  I may not get another chance with the freezing weather ...I was really hoping she would get up and leave but she didn't ...So I drew back and she still layed there ...I put the 30 yard pin on her heart and let fly ... WHAAAAACK ! She rolls off the rock and lights out ...that quick ...went threw her heart and out her spine ....Snapped her back ...Yep ....Those dang Wasp  :yike: Now what happens next is beyond anything I have witnessed in a while ... I watched her roll down the hill and rest against a cedar tree ...I still waited 45 minutes to be sure she was expired ....I go around to the left and make my way to where she rolled ....instantly blood everywhere ...Now what happens next is just more than I want to tell you ....because you may think I am full of sheet but here it goes ...I am looking down at the ground when all the sudden something jumps up 6 ft to my left ... THE DOE I SHOT  :dunno: :yike: A huge freakin buck  :yike: :bdid:  All I will say now is lucky I am a legal bowhunter ... he jumped up so close to me and I scared the hell out of him and he was trying to leave so fast he was running on air ....crosses a ravine and stops  :cryriver: ??? :puke:  THE END !!!!!
