Archery288's Late Season Deer 2013
«

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here actively, so I figured what better way to get re-engaged than with a season update! I just got back from my late season ventures here in Washington and Montana.
I was fortunate to harvest a great buck with my bow here in WA… I had this buck on camera last year, and was fortunate enough to have him return to my stand again this year; obviously a little bigger! He came out chasing some does past my stand and stopped to check his scrapes from the previous few weeks and create a few new ones along with some new rubs, all within sight of my stand. Making a circle from about 80 yards out around to my stand, he eventually made a mistake and walked to within 15 yards. After a well placed shot through his heart, he made a 50 yard dash and fell over within sight of my stand. I was pretty jacked up to say the least!
I also had the chance to head over to Montana with my dad and hunt with a good friend who used to live here in WA, and whom we used to share hunting camp with each year... Our good friend and hunting partner, John Davis (AKA Littlejohn on here), is one of the hardest hunting and most driven hunters I know! John and I covered a lot of ground in search of a good buck, however the weather wasn’t cooperating for us this year.
We tried glassing, rattling, grunting, doe bleats, you name it, we gave it a shot. We had some success rattling in a few deer, unfortunately none of which were what I was personally looking for at that stage of the hunt. We had a close call on a nice buck, but unfortunately they spooked before I was able to get a shot off. As the hunt wore on and my last day approached, I wanted to fill my tag and get some more meat for the freezer. A little 3 point walked out on the last day and fell victim to my 7mm WSM.
While John and I were off covering ground on the hunt one day, my dad was off in another area and did a little rattling himself. A nice buck walked out at 30 yards and needless to say, the safety came off and that was the last few steps that buck would make.
Overall it was a great year as I harvested my biggest buck and biggest bull, both with a bow in 2013. I am also very fortunate to share yet another season with my dad, whom I thank for getting me in to hunting a very young age. I eat, sleep, and breathe hunting now thanks to him. Also, John, thank you again for everything! You, Jen and the kids were a big help and we can’t thank you enough for everything while we were over there! Can’t wait till 2014…
