I love when it freezes over. Bust open an area and throw your decoys in. The ducks are limited on open water.

It's a lot of work but often pays off well.

I have an idea where I will be hunting this weekend. There is one creek nearby that won't freeze and I got permission from a guy that I have known since 1965. Problem is very little cover.... might be a hit, might be a miss but got to try.

Got into a discussion about tarps and duck hunting not too long ago..... Was trying to come up with a blind to hide under when hunting farm ditches..... We concluded silver looked the most like water....

Could always goose hunt

I've heard visqueen heavy duty "clear" plastic looks like water or ice to the birds.  Apparantly the open water layout hunters drap it over their boats and birds dont see them at all.  Might work well for laying out on the thick shore ice.

Heard the same just haven't tried it. Usually when the water freezes they just leave the area and head to the rivers. I used to live across the street from the Spokane river and I think it has only frozen one time in the last 60 years.

Everyone and their mom says that they have tried the plastic/colored dye on ice trick, but I have never seen anyone post up pictures of their set up in action. So, let's see them...

In open water we will run the heavier duty clear visqueen on the layout boats.  It works pretty good.
