No luck today, we called in 4 coyotes shot at 2 and hit 2 but not good enough to put them down. One left behind a lot of blood and the other left parts behind as it ran away, Man they are some tough animals :yike:. I think next time the .338 win is coming out to anchor them :o

Yes you should, but I'd rather you shoot coyotes than bobcats.

Guys,

Here is a fresh coyote kill from today, and it is my first ever.  Shot with modern rifle (obviously). Add a point to one of the field teams on my behalf.

Very odd, to my way of thinking, but I recovered the copper jacket from my .204 dia 40gr Vmax from a point just under the hide- at the entrance wound.  The exist wound was "gaping", yet there it was, just under the hide as I skinned the animal. The range was 200 yards.

Is it really possible to strip the jacket, going in? I am kind of hoping "not", but there was no lack of penetration in the end (as there was a large exit wound).

I shot three on Friday morning.  All three were running shots 200 - 310 yards.  I knocked a 4th down at 628 yards running straight away, but he managed to get over the hill and it would have taken 30 minutes to get up and over to him (2 feet of snow).  I take my little brother and he runs the Swarovski rangefinder and gives out continuous ranges - makes it nice!

I gotta give most of the credit to that little Cooper - it handles like a dream in the field.   Yeah, that is pretty gruesome head shot.  I shot the one on the far left pretty far up on the neck-line, guess I was leading them a little too much.
