Fur prices.
« on: December 05, 2013, 08:06:46 PM »
So I've been trying to find expected fur pricing for this seasons haul. Can anyone tell me where to look or tell me what a guy could expect for otter.

Tough question to answer. I'll take a crack at it. At this time of year everyone is going on rumor and speculation. Nobody will really know until a sale so expect some pricing information in February.
That being said last years prices are being used as a guide with guesses about consumer sales influencing the direction of the market. A cold December in Russia and China is good for fur sales so buyers watch the weather and also look at how many stale goods are left over from last year among other things.
There have been rumors this fall of higher prices and then a fur crash. I don't believe any of the rumors as there is really nothing new to base prices off now.
I would guess on your otter you can expect prices somewhere near last year to up a little. Last year I averaged $112 on otter at NAFA before commission so near $100 average.
That is an average so depending on the grade and size that could vary a lot. High end maybe as much as $180, Low end could be down to practically nothing. More then likely $80 to $120.
Don't hold me to that. :chuckle:

Well thanks again Bruce just wanted an idea. As far as my otter goes I'd expect closer to nothing. It was my first one, and with out saying I put a few holes in it and the board I built is under specs for a large otter. But thanks any way way for an idea.

Probably go #2 then. That can still bring a pretty good price of other things are good. Color, primeness and of course singe. Those things are usually out of a trappers hands.
Darker  fur is good
All white leather is good
Singe, not many can figure that one out.
