I'll be selling my 16' Crestliner Sportsmen coming up in the near future. Its a welded aluminum boat with an 05 40hp merc and an 05 8hp merc kicker. Also with a Humminbird gps/fishfinder, Scotty rod holders, d r plugs and mounts. I fish this boat on the sound regularly as well as all over the rest of the state. The boat handles chop well but I don't push it. The Straits might be a little much. I'll be asking 6.5-7k, shoot me a pm if you want to take a look.
Fish hard, hunt harder!

I have an 06 Hewescraft Sportsman 180.  Its an awesome boat and great for lakes and the sound.  I have taken it in the ocean as well, but the thinner hull and flat bottom is the only downside.  You will take a beating or drive SLOW.

my boat says stryker, but its a 98,its really what a talon is now...the stryker is much better than the talon...be sure and put a good kicker on your boat

Get to the boat show if you can and check out all the different alums, they're all there. I went yesterday and couldn't believe all the boats! :yike: The one thing I was looking for in the alums was the inside height of the sides because I do a lot of mooching in the Sound and I like the sides to hit about mid thigh or higher plus you don't want the rod storage on the sides sticking out too far so you can't lean against the upper rail. Some have a narrow rail and some have the wider one, I think Hewes is wider. I would go with the Hewes for sure. I have a 17' Olympic listed on CL in case you're interested.

Tough to find a good new boat in your price range. I just ordered a Hewes 16' sportsman with a few options and a 70 yami, came in a little over $27k. Not my boat, its work related.

That being said, Ive owned a 16.5 Hewes Searunner for several years. Its been a great boat, its even seen tuna waters 45 miles outa Westport. They are built tough and last forever.

In my opinion based on tons of research the top welded boats are Hewescraft, Duckworth, Raider, Thunderjet, Coldwater, Boulton, Raider and Northwest Boats.

Obviously options are going to be the biggest factor in final price, but as far as bang for your buck, Hewescraft is one of the better options.

Im also possibly looking to buy a new boat, upsizing. So if it comes to the point where you want a used boat I will keep you in mind.

I wish I would have waited, I bought a nice, used Arima Sea Pacer last week and I was on CL last night and a lady has a Seaswirl Striper probably a 21 or 22' with a big E TEC on it for $8500!! :bash: :bash: I guess her husband passed and needs to get rid of the boat. Beautiful boat too!! Has to be gone by now.

Just remember that boats are like gun safes, you get out of it what you put into it and always buy a bigger than what you think you will need because you will out grow it quickly.  :twocents:

Unless you know how to fiberglass, just sayin'.   ;)

Sure you can mod a glass boat after you own it. But you aren't gonna call a glass boat builder and expect them to modify a mold for a single boat.
