Removing Bear Teeth
« on: November 07, 2008, 02:41:09 PM »
What is the best way to get teeth out of bear for submission to the WDFW? Do they have to be turned in undamaged? Lets hear how some of you experienced bear hunters go about it...

I have tried the old dentist way...yanking it with a pair of plyers (no luck)...but really only had luck after I boiled the skull, the teeth just fall out most of the time.

HOWEVER, I was over at a taxidermist's house and he just pulled it out like it was no problem right after skinning my brothers bear head.

He took a small knife and placed it as the base of the back of the tooth. He then just worked it back and forth a bit, moving it forward and up at the gumline (since the tooths root usually grows down and towards the back of the jaw. It came out without much problem at all....but it was obvious it wasnt his first time either.  ;)

Easy, most of the time. You need the right sized screw driver and push down along the tooth. A little wiggle and up it comes.
