conditions in Ephrata this weekend?
« on: December 18, 2013, 08:05:21 AM »
I hunt the Moses Coulee area but haven't tried it in winter yet, coming over this weekend. What is it going to look like on the ground please? I use NOAA and have been watching weather conditions. Guessing there might be a dusting of snow/frost on the ground. Thanks for your help. I'll try to take it easy on your supply of yotes!

Temps have ranged between about 15-35 lately.  Roads have been icy and some days are pretty foggy.  Rumor has it it may snow this weekend.

Is it waterfowl season yet..............

Foggiest morning so far here in Wenatchee.  If it turns colder, it might go away.  Otherwise, warm air on cold ground=FOG!  :bash:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I saw the fog in the forecast, the last time I was over that way in winter I recall a lot of cold fog. I will hope it clears some for the weekend. Forecast says that, we'll see. Thanks to everyone for the quick reports. Might have to bring the scattergun in addition to a rifle. Any need for snow camo? I am guessing no.

I would say not to the snow cammo, are you coming to hunt Geese? Most of the fields are open, and they are only calling for 30% chance of snow.

Coming over for coyotes, will hunt the Three Devils Mesa area. Try to get a few stands in Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Bring Snow Camo anyway.  Forecast is for maybe up to 1" of snow Saturday.  :dunno:  I have Snow Camo in the rig all the time, but haven't needed it yet....

I think you are right, it will be added to the pile of gear. NOAA says snow maybe on Friday with clear days on Sat/Sun. We'll see. Looking forward to the trip and and a big thanks again to the members of this website. I'm daytona595 on the Wa Predator site.

That whole area is good.  There's a huge tract of public land south of the Palisades....

I agree, I scouted it out last year, put in some good stands, called some dogs. A beautiful area.  Do you ever go work the Douglas Creek area?

My cousin farms the area north of the Douglas Creek area, and I've hunted some of the "walk in only" sections.  I flyfished Douglas Creek years ago, but the last time I was there, the illegals turned it into a dump, and I haven't been down into the canyon since.  Most of the time I either hunt west of Waterville or the Baird springs Road/Overen Road areas of Grant County.

I know we talked with each other about Pateros and surrounding areas on the Predator Hunting site. I will get out there next spring. In the meantime, looking forward to some cold fun this weekend, hope it clears up like the forecast says. will bring lots of clothes and throw in the snow camo just in case and maybe two guns to suit the conditions. I hope we can arrange a meet up this spring. You know a lot more areas over there than I do. My scouting has paid off but I know I am missing some good spots.

I look forward to it.  I'm always glad to pass on what little I know to other hunters who are respectful of the land, and meeting new hunters is fun.  And spring is not that far away, either!
