I feed my White German Shepherd and Pit the Kirkland brand adult dog food. It got 4/5 stars on the dog food advisor site and has glucosamine (pitty has arthritis and GSDs are prone to hip problems). It's about $26 for a 40# bag and they LOVE it! Taste Of The Wild and Blue Buffalo gave them gas.

Kirkland Natures Domain. Used to feed totw, but my lab seems to do just as well on natures domain and its much cheaper. Both are good in my book.

When I ran beagles I fed them diamond hi-pro. I think it was 26% protein and 18% fat I can't remember the ingredients but they could go all day as long as their feet would hold up.

old roy

They should outlaw that crap  :bash:

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/ol-roy-dog-food-dry/

I used to believe that too, until I had a dog that did not do well on the better quality feed.  I tried several.  I tried introing it slowly and then very slowly.  Could not handle any more than a 50/50 mix before he would start crapping his brains out.  Dog was very healthy.  He thrived on regular old Purina Dog Chow.  Go figure.
While I believe that primium dog feeds are the way to go, I never give anyone a ration of crap about what they feed until I hear their entire story.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Old Roy you gotta be kidding me :bash: Had two dogs die well before their prime feeding them that crap, one died from cancer the other from a stroke. I roll my own now and they live a healthy and productive life to 18 years, and don't trust any store bought dry dog food anymore :twocents:

It depends on how long the dog has been on a food. You may have to coax it in if you change.
My golden has the runs if I change. New dog food has to be introduced slowly.
Usually you look at the scat to see how the dog is tolerating the change. You can change during the off season, but not within a month of the season start. Definitely not during the season.

Costco brand for my 2 large dogs.  I work in other stuff for variety, including venison.  Saved the back\neck bone and other bones with s bit of meat still attached.  Too rich for one dog, but the other does fine.

Someone posted a really cool site reviewing various dog foods.

Coupled with the fact I wasn't happy how the Britt was doing on her old food I gradually switched to another brand and she is doing better on it.

I really dislike the Wolf thing  :chuckle:  but over looked that as the reviews were right at the top of what was available in my area. \

I'm not sure if this was the site I used or not

this is what we feed our bulldog about the highest protein we could find

I use nutra nuggets land and rice formula. Good quality with a low price and no corn.

Check out Dr. Tims dog food. Only downside is you'll have to mail order it.

Lately I've been using Purina Pure Balance, which I believe is only available at Walmart. I've used more expensive foods and I've used cheaper foods. The issue I have is that our dog is sensitive to some foods and she gets to where she's constantly biting and scratching herself. This has happened a few times and every time, I would quit feeding her the current food, and switch to something else. Every time, this has put an end to the itching problem within a day or two.

I finally found this Purina at Walmart that was cheaper than some of the alternatives, and it's been working so I think I'll stick with it. I'm tired of giving away expensive dog food. I had to give away at least two 40 pound bags that were nearly full.

The dog food is actually only about 50% of her diet, as we give her "people" food every day. (Almost all meat) I figure real meat is healthier than any dog food that I could buy.

Here's a picture of the Walmart food:
