Antlerless

It looks like an anterless buck to me. Now...I'f I'm archery road hunting in a unit that has a clear and legal season for antlerless I believe that once I step off the maintained portion of the road I'm legal to kill, or harvest, said anterless animal. However.....would I? I believe the intention of the state regs for antlerless animals is to increase the harvest rate by making does a viable downrange target. I don't think antlerless bucks are what the state had in mind. However.......that is all good and dandy but you know what happense when we assume anything...thats right......we lose our rifle, I mean bow...sorry.

So, if I am hunting in a legal antlerless unit and have the correct weapon to kill the animal that is unlucky enough to have shed his mighty horns I would kill him and eat his tasty flesh.

That is possible....it could be why this thread is active. However....it is in the deer hunting, not trail cam or shed section. So, I'm assuming that he is asking us...the almight forum of knowlege.....the bestow our graces upon him so he can venture forth and smite the life from this deer.

 Here is what  Illinois Department of Natural Resources thinks about their antlerless animals

Q. What is the definition of an antlered deer and an antlerless deer?

A. An antlered deer is defined as a deer having at least one antler of a length of 3 inches or more. An antlerless deer is defined as a deer without antlers or a deer having antlers less than 3 inches long.

Action on a thread is always fun to see.   I am going in about an hour and I have a regular Archery deer tag and a second "antlerless" tag and I know this guy may come in closer to hours and I won't be able to tell for sure if I am seeing a doe or this buck.    As I read the regs it would appear legal.  I wonder why they don't just say "doe" instead of antlerless.   I would guess that is for cases like this or for young bucks that have yet to grow their antlers.

If he comes in I'd stick him. All joking aside antlerless means just that...not did it ever have them or can it grow them. Does it have antlers. Nope. Dead deer. I see it kind of like shooting a bearded hen. If the regs say it must be a turkey with a beard and you shoot a hen then fine, as long as it meets the legal defintion. Getting a little late and I'd rather have meat than tag soup. Good luck and post up if you get him.
