Hunting guides
« on: January 08, 2014, 05:38:09 PM »
After sitting on the throne till my legs went dead reading Corys post on his Elk hunt issues this year. My question is why do we as a State allow out of state guides to work in Washington ?? To me they are taking work from local guides.

The areas the temporary permits are issued in are not included in any operating outfitters unit.  Those temp permits are for 1 bull elk only. They are area specific also. Any private land like most of the Dayton a permit is not required
.
Since these temp permits have been issued (3-4 years) there has been less encroachment in my unit.

If you are asking this because of the guide/guides on that raffle tag hunt I am pretty sure they are as local as you can get. I didnt want to add another element to that raffle tag post but the only one not getting drug through the mud was the guide throughout that seven page debacle. In my guiding experience I always feel like getting the animal cared for and off the mountain is as much or more of my responsibility than the hunters. With the raffle tags and auction tags this year I doubt there was one out of state guide listed on the permits. nwhunter

My question was not meant to be directed at a certain guide. I was more curious on how much illegal guiding or how many out of state guide are taking client out in Washington state on these hunts that are being auctioned and raffled off to potential out of State winners . We know huntin fool is bidding and promoting raffle tags as is mossback bidding on auction tags. Just like to see local guide benefit .

I thought nwhunter answered the question you were asking. There were no out of state guides on either of the raffle tag hunts or the auction tag hunt. The mule deer and whitetail guys didn't have any guides and the sheep guy was guided by a local outfit.
