Daughter's second Deer tag filled today.
« on: December 29, 2013, 07:17:11 PM »
Colville River Area, White-tailed, antlerless. I set up a ground blind in a field and started hunting on the week ends with my daughter. Too dark to hunt after work. The season opened Sept. 1st so I wasn't in a big hurry to get this second deer. This field had lots of does in it all year until we started hunting. Just bucks the first few times out and it was too dark for a shot on a doe by the time they worked there way to us. Each morning on the way to work I would see deer out in one corner of this field. So yesterday we went in the back side and sneaked out at the edge of the field. Nice fat doe at 150 yds, she lade down using a by-pod but the doe was below a hump in the field. So I got my shooting sticks out and we knee crawled out into the field. The doe made us game over. So that afternoon I put a table and chair at the edge and camoed it up. So this morning we were back and 10 deer or so were out. The closes one was at 160yds but with the low light we couldn't confirm it was a doe and not a spike buck. When we knew it was a doe she was at 250 yds. My daughter made a good shot on her using the by-pod on the table and recovered it in the woods. I went and got my pick-up and parked it at the table, the other deer in the field ran to the far end about 500 yds away. All of a sudden all the deer were running right at us, a doe run right by us with a lone coyote on it's tail. He stopped at about 30yds away and looked right at us. You should have seen the look on his face. My daughter said whats that? I grabbed the gun from her and put a nice hole in this deer killing coyote. Love these daddy daughter hunts. I'm going to use my new foxpro e-caller down there and try to get my daughter her first coyote. I knew that there were lots of yotes there but I was holding off until she got her deer.

Way to put one down

That's a coveted tag and I'm glad she got to put one down.

Even sweeter that you saved a few fawns by roasting that coyote  ;)
