I had the same problem, would start then go out in a couple minutes, with a full bottle.  Saw a video on You Tube - Remove cover/handles disconnect tubing from gas valve to pilot and blow it out, including the valve (push down on valve like you do when you start) .  Mine, just like the video, had some oil about the consistency of honey that was blocking or disrupting the flow of gas.  Works like a champ now.

I don't have a problem with mine but it sounds like a problem I was having with a stove. The regulator might be freezing up and constricting the gas flow. I am not sure if that is easy to replace on that. For my stove I just went and got a new regulator.
As far as robs suggestion of the tool to fill your old green tanks is great. That's all I do with mine. I can never fully get the green container full however so I just bring more containers.

I use one in my wall tent it works great.  I bring ten gallon tanks, and use a distribution tree to run the stove, lantern, as well as the buddy heater.

I had this same problem.  The pilot light looked like it was blowing itself out on mine.  You could hear it starting to go cause it'd start to get louder.  Would run for maybe 30 min in the tent and then go out.  Had it hooked up to the large tank, never had an issue with it on small tanks (at least when I used to use them).  Maybe I'll try cleaning the thing out and see if that works.

Somewhat interestingly, I had a problem with the same large tank when used with a bbq, but it seems to be working now for some reason.  Who knows, could be the tank I guess...

Resurrecting this thread from the dead. I hope that's cool. I just learned about these heaters and I'm wondering if Jackelope ever got a resolution. We're still tent camping so I don't have the options that a floorless wall tent offers given heat, fuel source, and tipping-over concerns.

I didn't do anything to it at all and it has worked flawlessly for a whole bunch of hours and a whole bunch of propane bottles worth of burn time. Maybe there was a piece of debris stuck somewhere or something that passed through? Dunno...I'm confident saying it fixed itself though. Used it recently in temps in the 20's without issue.

I've had several of the Mr. Buddy Heaters and eventually had that problem with all of them.  Blew out the tubes as suggested earlier and finally got a filter for use with the big tanks (they recommend doing this as the big tanks have more particulants than the small cannisters). That seemed to cure the problem.  Make sure  you cover them securely during the period you don't use as they are also susceptible to dust filling the ceramic plates and also turn off at the tank when  using the big tanks and let them burn out any propane in the system. Great little units but frustrating when you need them and they don't work.

Not saying it applies here, but the weirdest propane issue I had is when the filler overfilled the bulk tank, causing it to send liquid instead of vapor and resulting in sputtering and going out.

The other gotcha, aside from the clogged lines, is the bulk tank leak prevention safety valve going off if you open the tank valve too quickly.

thanks

One YT vid I watched said not to run it all night. Is this because of carbon monoxide poisoning or something? I'd imagine this might not be as much of an issue if sleeping in a real tent given the ventillation or can you still die of CO poisoning inside a regular ole nylon tent?  :dunno:

It's the thermocouple style regulator. Had the problem on mine. Without heat the regulator won't stay open if it's not opening all the way it will let the pilot go out and shut off. Makes sense if you think about how you have to light it. Easy to replace part just gotta take the thing apart. And if you plan to use a larger tank and hose set up make sure to get a filter.  I think the regulator was around $20 ish. Also check and make sure there aren't spider webs in the pilot or a bunch of dust/debris

I had to clean mine when it was new, kind of annoying, but its been flawless for 5 years or so now. I would recommend getting a storage bag for it, really helps keep them in good working order by not letting dirt poison the catalyst.

I bought a big buddy heater from a member on this site and the damn thing won't stay lit for longer than 5 minutes. Any chance someone can post the fix?

Mine is going on 4 years with no problems. If your using a bulk tank and hose,  be sure to use an inline filter. Mine was shutting off without the filter.
Mine is a different version though.
There are some forum specific sites for these heaters.

Not saying it will work for you but this is what I did with your same problem, didn't cost a dime but your time - Good luck!
