I'm going to do some testing this spring. I'm hoping a fully charged battery in airplane mode turned on for pictures will get me through a week.

   1.  will glove up with latex,  I bought a box of lates gloves and they help for when it rains, gutting animals, etc. and when you are done toss them.  coyotes must gobble them up cuz they are gone the next day.  mike w

Great advice right there.

I would just shut it off.  That's what I do.  It lasted a week easy and I was able to make a couple phone calls in the middle of the Frank Church (which surprised me).

I use the Hunting GPS Maps on my phone, which kills/destroys the battery quick. I might have to step up to an actual GPS. I have no other use for my phone up there other than pictures and the GPS app.
 :dunno:
I was thinking about getting one of those battery pack/case deals that actually attaches to your phone or a battery pack recharger that runs off of AA batteries.

Why not a lightweight solar charger like a Goal Zero? :dunno:

They have things like this now:
http://www.mpjbattery.com/mpj-portable-external-usb-2600mah-cell-phone-battery-charger-power-bank-for-cell-phone.html
at almost 1lb for that, he aint bringin it... :bdid:

Didn't check the weight on that one, but was just showing an example.  I have one that is pretty small and light weight and will likely bring it on my next back country trip.  There are many makes and models out there...

Changed to a lighter tripod, will be trading the fixed blade buck knife for the piranha knife and blades, extra black heavy duty garbage bag, minimizing on the other knick knacks I think I need in there.

...oh and 4 more feet of toilet paper, almost forgot again! :chuckle:

I'll be picking up/replacing a few things this year.

- new sleeping pad
- no more camera (I phone only)
- uv water filter to replace my pump.
- new ultra light tent: looking for opinions on this one. I will be backpacking in solo and don't need mych, thinking of going with a simple tarp system.

Last year I upgraded binos, spotter, and knife so that's taken care of.

I am getting a newer light weight sleeping bag, making my own dehydrated meals, and adding a GPS with washington maps. I am also getting a synthetic stock for my rifle.

I picked up one of these last year and LOVE it.

The long compresses easily into an 8L dry bag with room and is a scootch over 2 pounds including the waterproof dry bag.  I am almost always cold when I am asleep, but with this bag I have been sleeping with just boxers and a t shirt, no socks down to temps in the low 20's with great comfort.  A first for me.

March usually has a 20% off one item sale at REI - thats the time to go grab it!

Well what am I not upgrading is the question

Gun- replaced my 270 ruger with a tikka t3 light in 300 win mag with a nice vortex viper and dnz rings

Mid layer, last year I just wore a tshirt over my wool and had my soft shell over that. I got mighty cold a few times. So far with gift cards I added a kryptek kratos puffy and a core4 selway shirt.

Replaced my surefire with a zebralight headlamp from Jphelps

I need to replace my boots, my meindl ultralights put a hurting on me in the hills. I plan on searching for a few months and getting the most comfortable and durable boots.

I'm also going to get one of the rokslide kill kits for next year.

I might get a spotting scope this summer if I can find a good deal and swing it.
