Shotgun deer
« on: November 14, 2008, 08:09:03 PM »
After three days east of nothing but does and fawns east of the mountains I came back home to look for blacktails.  I went hard after work everyday and weekends we finally saw about five deer near a nut tree about half hour after dark.  It was really dark but I could put antlers on three of them.  So the next day I went to where I thought they would travel.  At about fifteen minutes before dark a two point came out and tucked behind some trees about 50 yards away.  I couldn't see him and was getting antsy. I came out of hiding and tried to sneak around the trees.  As soon as I saw him he bolted and I wasn't quick enough. That's it I blew it. Those chances don't come too often.  The leafs were so crunchy I didn't want to move so I just knelt down. About two minutes later another deer came out.  It was getting dark and I was having trouble putting antlers on it so I got my glasses and couldn't find it. As I turned almost 90 degrees I pulled the nocs down to see him maybe ten feet from me with my Remmington 1100 in my lap he was gone before I could pull my gun up. Son of a #$%&*. He was so close I could smell him and he had a nice spread.  Well two chances blown.  Hopes for a buck were looking grim.  Next night after talking my way out of a speeding ticket I went to the same place. At about ten minutes till dark I saw this guy walk out of the brush.  No glasses this time I got ready and shot from about 50 yards.  000 buckshot did the job.

Another nice Whatcom Co. deer... nice.
I would rather be a conservative nut job, than a liberal with no nuts, and no job!
