hypertrophic osteodystrophy

Our new chesapeake bay retriever puppy
Has this he's 11 weeks old

He was doing great just like any puppy took him in for vaccines on Monday and on Tuesday limping right rear by Wednesday he couldn't stand up and screams if you touch him

So it's a bone growth disorder can be triggered by vaccination. Great

Occurs between 2-7 months old
Usually grow out if

Any one with experience with this

Ouch. Doesnt sound fun for the little guy.

Neither of our Chessies experienced this and my wife used to bread them in KS years back and said she had never heard of it.

Hope he's feeling better soon!

Also- Call your breeder ASAP, let them know the specific inoculation which was given so that other pup buyers can be notified about the possible reaction.

He was a rescue dog. So no one to inform
Vet ran all kinds of blood and chemical panel it was not genetic

She said you could have paid $1000 and it could still occur
Hope he grows out of it

He has great nose and loves to retrieve

No absolutely and I didn't mean it to be derogatory. Obviously the reaction is not genetic however, tendencies for reactions to certain innoculations could be much the same as tendencies for allergies. Good of you to take a rescue and give it a great home and care!

We just hope he grows out of it. The duramax helps for about 16 hours he can walk a little but the last 8 he can't even stand to pee

They say rest is the best. But so hard to the little guy like this

We've always had labs but I guess it can occur with them too
