Shot my first male yesterday....big dog nice coat
«

Drove about 45 min to a new area....first stand dog barks about 1/4 mile, I turn to my partner to make sure he heard and show him the direction it came from I turn back to see the Yote at a dead run down hill. Never saw him again...second stand got bored and couldn't resist magpie at 160 yds, fun to see what happens with a 40 grain ballistic tip at 3800 fps. Hike to next stand Area and see a truck coming down the hill into the canyon and think to myself am I somewhere
Where I'm not supposed to be? What is this guy doing so we decided to wait for our set up see where he goes and what he does but two minutes later I hear rifle fire The next ridge over about 150 yards I see a coyote take off dead run up the hill have no chance at a shot start heading down the hill a little bit farther another coyote comes out from down below as the truck appears below in front of us try to get a shot at the dog but not happening long story short ended up seeing five coyotes no chance at the shot at any of them. Hiked around two or 3 miles after parking in the feel free to hunt area where I'm supposed to park and some *censored* drives up the middle of the canyon scaring away all the animals when I saw him he was going about 30 miles an hour on dirt gravel road, needless to say I was slightly upset. So we head home and about 3 miles from The house I see a coyote in wheat stubble about 100 yards or so from the road so we went down the road about half-mile got ready turned around and came back pulled over on the shoulder the coyote just stands there and looks at us I could not believe it. I take the shot but forgot to take the safety off Coyote still stands there safety off one shot one kill I swear I see the coyote drop in my scope as I pick my head up I see one running off right from the same area but I never saw her must have been a female that had laid down as we approached too bad her mate was not as smart almost had a double so after hours of hiking and a quarter tank of fuel I could have just slept in went for a short drive but hey that's hunting

Magpies are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. However, under the Code of Federal Regulations, “a Federal permit shall not be required to control . . . magpies, when found committing or about to commit depredations upon ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock, or wildlife, or when concentrated in such numbers as to constitute a health hazard or other nuisance . . .”

the definition of Depredation is the key to killing magpies. "In or adjacent to agricultural fields" is part of the definition. If you see a field with boxes that look like 3 sheets of plywood BLAZE AWAY! Those are Cutter bee Boxes that are used to pollinate crops. Magpies LOVE the larvae! Farmers will be happy you shoot them too. It is legal and since they LOVE to make nests in people's trees at their houses shooting them near you home with ornamental trees is also legal. Like most things knowing the law and DISCRETION is the key to thinning the population. Spring time is a GREAT time to kill them. The larvae has just been put in the boxes, there are lots of dumb young magpies around to shoot. If you catch them right the young cannot fly and can be blasted out of the ornamental trees.
