CPT Aaron Blanchard 3D Shoot???.....no clue where to start!!!!
« on: January 28, 2014, 09:11:38 PM »
So I have been eyeballs deep in planning a Fallen Heroes 5K to raise money for the USO and the Fisher House, two of the organizations that helped my family immensely in the days and weeks after Aaron was killed, and continue to help families of the fallen and our wounded warriors and their families still.

As I plan my run I can't help but continue to think of ways that I can do more and raise more.  One of the ideas I came up with is a 3D shoot.  I have been a bow hunter since I was 16 but have never been to a shoot (that is gonna change this year), so I have no idea what I would be getting into with this.

I have acquired a tax id# and have a bank account set up for my run so I could use that for online registrations and collecting money but beyond that, I don't know where to start.  It would have to be late summer or most likely something for next year as I have to get through my run on June 21st before I get crazy about a new project.

I know there are some hardcore shooters and 3D guys on here so give me your thoughts, ideas, contacts, anything you think could help.  Keep this topic going or pm me.  Thank you and above all, NEVER FORGET! -Karl Blanchard

I'd start with approaching an existing club with a 3-D range. See if you can get them to let you use it for this. If not, you're going to need to procure targets and create a range from scratch, which would be a really expensive and major undertaking.

We will never forget Aaron, Karl.

I would start by contacting local archery clubs to see if you could set up somthing with them. They have the range, walkthrough, targets. It would be much easier that way because they already have the resources and expences covered.

Our club has its best attendance in the first quarter of the year. There are a few shoots that draw huge numbers at different times like i said in my PM.

If we could find a Central Location I think you could get enough targets on lend for one shoot if enough clubs pitched in.

I would plan it for next year so it would give you more time to get all the kinks out. I would determine what centeral location you would like to have it. Will it be a 1 day or 2 day shoot. I would talk to the local archery clubs in that area to get one on board that way they can adjust their shoot schedual for the year and see if the are a WSAA member that way they can put it on the shoot calendar for you so you can get the advertising and work in a date that doesn't conflict with other clubs in the area which will result in a better turn out for your event. Then I would would use Facebook to the fullest advantage ( because it's free and easy) and gather shoot sponsors to donate door prizes and raffle item ( easy money). When looking for a club take into consideration that people maybe coming from out of town so a club that can handle camping would be great .

The WSAA schedual is hammered out in Oct at the convention. Only Clubs can post thier shoots on the schedual, however in NOV it can be viewed on thier website. :twocents:

Thank you all for the info and PM's!  I can hardly keep up with my reply's.  From the feedback I have gotten, I think we can make this happen.  I don't know how big we can make it but one thing about us Blanchard's is we stay focused!  I have the blessing of the USO to start this and I sent an email off to WSAA with a little background info and questions.  As I learn more I am gonna start hitting up some of the bigger names in the business for some sponsorship dollars and donations.  One thing I learned from Aaron and his battle to become a pilot is when one person says no you just keep looking for someone who will say yes.

I was thinking Wetside next year but I have a tentative offer that might find this being held in Kittitas County.  Keep the ideas and info rolling folks!  It is appreciated more than you could ever imagine! -Karl

I know that the west side may draw more people , but a east side shoot could turn into a weekend camp out as well . I wonder if the guys up in twisp that put on there shoot would consider partnering up and making it a double event and hunt wa weekend ? just a thought

The support for this kind of shoot would be over whelming.  What we need is a location.  A ski resort shoot would be awesome.  Ride the lifts up and shoot your way down.  I think you would have no problem coming up with targets if you asked each Wsaa club to donate a couple targets just for the weekend.  If it were me I wouldn't even try to plan this shoot for this year give yourself time and put it out for next summer.

The only problem with a ski resort shoot is its going to take some money I'm sure.
