Wife's First Hunting Trip
« on: January 29, 2014, 04:54:52 AM »
Two weeks ago, I took my wife, Tricia, on a guided pheasant hunt on the Double Barrel Upland Bird Ranch near Spokane, WA. This was her first hunt ever and my first pheasant hunt. My grandfather gave her a virtually brand new 20 gauge Remington Model 870 (he's pretty awesome) for her to use on the hunt, while I used my 12 gauge Remington Model 1100. In short, the hunt was a great experience: we had a professional and friendly guide, there were plenty of birds, a relaxed, "no pressure" atmosphere, and the dogs were well trained and fun to watch. We each ended up 6 pheasant and I think she has been bitten by the hunting bug. We are already planning our next hunt together. If you're looking for a preserve pheasant hunt in the state of Washington, especially for an inexperienced hunter, I can recommend them without hesitation. My only fear is that my taking on her on such a nice first hunt on a pheasant preserve, I may have spoiled her and given her unrealistic expectations about what hunting is like.  :)

If you're interested, I posted a full write up of the hunt with lots of photos plus a couple of cool movies of each of us shooting pheasant here: http://www.thebiggamehuntingblog.com/2014/01/outfitter-review-double-barrel-upland.html

They have a nice sporting clays range set up also. It is only 15 miles from my house. I only hunt wild birds but if I was going to a game farm Double Barrel would be my choice.
A smart dog will bring 2 beverages to save a trip to the fridge!
