Yep I'm gonna give her a go this year. Trying to decide if it will be my 12ga TC New Englander or my 62cal flintlock smooth rifle(jug chock full).

Would love to shoot a front stuffer on gobblers but have trouble finding one. Any suggestions?

Hey Harleysboss

Did you do your jugchoke or did you have it done?  If so, who did it and are they still doing them?  Thanks.

Should be a really good year over for those gobblers - I am excited for April 15!
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Harley

Thanks, I just thought I'd check.  Funny, I have a New Englander and a .62 flintlock fowler too.  I've taken quite a few chukars and quail with my New Englander (one elk with the .54 barrel too), but haven't tried for turkey with it yet.  I think it would be neat to try with the fowler though.  Good luck!

I've only been muzzleloader hunting for 2 years now and I've only hunted deer.  Hunting turkeys with a front stuffer sounds like fun and I've been contemplating it.  Does anyone use shot in a standard .50 cal ML?  Is it even feasible to use a .50 cal for shooting birds?

:bdid: seen it done years back on the east coast  but they were only shooting clay birds at 15 feet   the pattern was real wide  right from the barrel .Most of them said its due to the rifling in them,  cant say the rifle  would do very well for a turkey gun. :dunno:  not unless your right on top of them that is.    a smooth bore works the best  :twocents:

That's what I figured, but I was wondering if someone had come up with a special wad/sabot specifically for rifled barrels.

Spinning shot will disperse radially as soon it is unconstrained by the barrel.  I doubt if any sabot would help much.

:yeah: When shooting shot out of a rifled barrel just picture a Tornado with the bottom of the Tornado being the end of the barrel where the shot exits and then quickly get wider as it goes up.

Turkeys with a Muzzleloader sounds fun, but I have yet to bag a gobbler with a shotgun...I need to find where these gobblers like to hide, then maybe someday I will go after them with a muzzy!
