I would guess that last pic is what we have here, and they are a major nuisance to the farmlands. Act of depredation I guess

Not without a study, visit, a permit and a whole lotta trouble. No way they can be taken legally unless expressed permission and good luck with that.

One last try...don't post dead pics of em, don't brag about hundreds of rounds being tossed in areas that hold em...I like my legal shooting areas and Don't want them ruined because of ignorance or willful disobedience based upon myths like depredation.

Actually I don't think these guys aren't spotted. Farmers have been known to hire shooters to help reduce them. Doesn't help. These farmers are big, trust me when I say big. I know for a fact if one has an issue and the state needs to be involved they are and usually because he invited them. Not saying in a bad way, with the new bs USDA, EPA, and other regs farmers are facing pretty soon big poo will hit the fan. Expect your produce prices to greatly increase in the future.

I knew some of the Washington Species of Ground squirrel are protected.  In Oregon, they are not.  the juveniles are grey, and they get browner as they mature.  The farmers and ranchers there hate them, not because of their tiny burrows, but Badgers and Coyotes dig BIG holes trying to dig them out, and the big holes are hard on cattle and equipment.  One land owner wants us to shoot them so she can raise a garden!  They appear to be a smaller relative of the Prairie Dog....

I would be very surprised if these are protected.

You may get some visitors one of these days--where we go in Oregon is better than a 6 hour drive... And I have 3 pellet guns!

Love shootin rats in MT.

I know guys that go to MT to shoot rats and Prairie Dogs.  Some places there the residents call the Ground Squirrels "Gophers".  Never been there myself.

Grizzly95 what a great offer , I would be more than a little surprised if you did not have several people take you up on it as people see this thread  :chuckle:

Chukar, that is one of the best educational posts I have seen on here in a long time....THANK YOU. I would suspect any additional info and pictures you could offer on this topic would go a long way in helping more people do the right thing and help keep them all inside the law  :IBCOOL:. So many figure "if I can see them they are fair game" people like you sharing solid knowledge is a big help.
