FOC - what's reasonable
« on: May 23, 2014, 09:17:33 AM »
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on new arrows.. if you recall I asked about 3 or 4 fletch.
Problem is, the more I learn, the more confusing things get, and I know I'm over thinking this.
Huntersfriend web says foc 7-15% is acceptable.
I'm currently shooting a Hoyt CE with the old Fuel cams, 68 lbs, 27" arrow and 100gr tip, and now learning my FOC has been about 10%.
If I somewhat duplicate what I was shooting I'd go with the Carbon Express mayhem 350 and run with a 10.4% FOC  a 125gr tip would bring it up to 12.6, but more arrow weight than I want.  (And I have to buy new broadheads)
OR -
For more $$$  I could get the Maxima Red, keep the weight the same with 125 gr broadheads and get 13.2% FOC

What FOC do you find 'best', or is 10% reasonable, any significant difference between 10 and 12?  I don't have the funds to buy and test different configurations....

Wish some of you guys lived close to Bellevue, good conversation for over a beer.

Thanks

From what ive learned 4 fletch is stable but you can go 3 with spiral off set and get a stable flight with less weight on the rear.

I shoot 3 fletched arrow with a 13.5 foc and a final weight of 470gr. The fight with broad heads with this set up is great. I was shooting 420gr 10 foc and broad head flight got erratic to a point.
Id get the higher foc and use 3fletch but thats what my own experience has proven.

If you want to keep 100gr by you have just buy brass inserts to increase FOC. I shoot mine at about 18% FOC with four fletch. But I'm also shooting 150gr two blade by. I shoot Hoyt trykon xl at 31.5 inch draw and 68lbs. They fly like darts.  The more Foc you shoot the faster they will stabilize off the bow
