Elk Calls
« on: March 04, 2014, 12:23:41 PM »
What is everyone using for elk calls.  I am going to switch to diaphragm style.

Any pros or cons to say Phelps or rocky mountain or any other brands?

Thanks

I've used Jason's (Phelps) calls since he started his business. In my opinion, you can't go wrong here, whether it's his diaphragms or externals.  Quality calls and quality sevice. Highly recommend!

 :yeah:

Get his big tube and some diaphragms. Also get one of his wooden cow calls.

I still suck with a diaphragm call but really like in wood cow calls.  Can't go wrong.

I cant stand anything but a diaphram. I hunt alone and like the hands free option.
Diaphrams are something you have to try. They dont all work or fit the same in everyones mouth.

My favorite 2 are the bugling bull mellow yellow and the raging bull. But I do want to try some of Jasons.

Berry Game Call diaphrams for me (since the mid 80s) and Elknut's Chuckler EL... I sure like the sound I get out of that tube.

Can't go wrong with Phelps.. There was a Hunting mag that did some reviews of calls and Phelps placed way up there. Even winning some categories

Order from his website. Or contact him with what you are looking for. I used his signature cow and bull diaghprams last year with good resultd. Also use bugling bull calls. My favorites are the challenge and excited estrus.

Right now they are only available through my website (www.phelpsgamecalls.com) and a few pro shops.

I'm looking at expanding but keeping up with that demand while maintaining quality is a puzzle I've yet to solve.

As far as the calls, you really need to find what style and stretch works for you. Some guys prefer the flat calls (like I produce) while others prefer the palate plate or dome. I always tell people to use the calls you are comfortable with.

My wood calls are very easy to use and sound great. My most versatile diaphragms are the elk commander, signature bull and the threat ( these calls will make both cow and bull vocalizations). I also sell some of bugling bull calls; mellow yellow and raging bull (palate plate) and the all-star (dome).  If you have any other questions let me know.

The calls that I got from Bearmanric (RR Calls) from the contest are great. Even I could make those calls sound good.
