I use Bugling Bull reeds, they work the best for me. I prefer Phelps' external wood calls to mix it up during a calling sequence. Don't get discouraged if you have trouble with some, just try another style or brand.

The Phelps wood external reed cow call is VERY easy to use and makes a great sound.  As Jason said, diaphragm calls vary and you need to find what fits best in your mouth.  The Bugling Bull Raging Bull model (which you can get on Phelps website) works best for me, but I recently picked up some of the Phelps medium frame calls and are working them over as well.  Jason does provide exceptional service!

I would highly recommend phelps external.  They are made with quality (and look awesome) and Jason has great customer service.  For diaphrams I would suggest mellow yellow for cow calling.  I have recently gotten phelps diaphrams and I am impressed and these may be my go to diaphrams.  On another token I have been using the hyper lip single for years and its an awesome call as well.  The nice thing is you can do a one stop shop on phelps game calls website.  Diaphrams take practice so I would get on the ball while u have time to learn them.

Phelps diaphragm calls are awesome and his wood cow calls are simply the best. Call Jason or get on his website and he will set you up.

I cant stand anything but a diaphram. I hunt alone and like the hands free option.
Diaphrams are something you have to try. They dont all work or fit the same in everyones mouth.

My favorite 2 are the bugling bull mellow yellow and the raging bull. But I do want to try some of Jasons.

:yeah: Been using Berry Calls For Long time as well.Do like Jason's calls which have been mixed into the bag of tricks. I have calls ready to fall apart from years of use , pop em in and sing a elk song like riding a bike.....  For me the latex has to really soften up with use to make a good song...

I have tried many many different diaphrams.  For years I thought I just couldn't use them, but I finally found Bugling Bull.  They fit my mouth and work great.  Some of my friends use others and sound awesome too.  It is definitely a personalized thing.  Keep trying different calls.  Flat, domed, etc.... until you find that perfect fit for you.   In my opinion every elk hunter should master Diaphrams.  No better way to go.   :twocents:

I ordered a set of them.  Jason was very helpful in recommending 3 diaphragm calls and one wood call.  I didn't hesitate and ordered them up.  Should be here tomorrow and I'll start driving my family crazy with practice.

I ordered some earlier this week and am hoping they get here before our road trip to Portland today. The Mrs is gonna love it :chuckle:
