potty training not going so good...
« on: March 06, 2014, 02:33:10 PM »
I can't get my five month old black lab male to get house broke. I'll take him out every half hour to hour and let him do his buisness. At least once a day he will say screw it and pee in the house though. This mostly happens when my wife is home. And he thinks its OK the pee in his kennel. When he was younger I did the whole section off the kennel and all that so he wouldn't lay in it but he doesn't care. Any body have any pointers to get this fixed?

First thing I can say is I feel for you, been there done that. Second, he still is only 5 months old and he will get it so you have to be patient which is easier said then done. Third and what worked well for me, is to have a word or phrase when you go outside with him to pee. "Lets go pee" or whatever you want and also have a treat with you. After he takes a leak, praise the heck out of him and give him a treat. Won't take long until he figures it out. Labs are chow hounds and love treats!

Get a kennel that is the same size as the dog. Buy a new one for his size as he grows. If he is peeing in the kennel it's too big. He will be able to hold himself for at least 6 hours. Use e kennel. He needs to be in there at night, when you're not home or when your wife isn't giving him attention. House training a pup with a kennel is one of the easiest task to accomplish if you do it 100 percent correctly. No cheating and he will stop peeing inside your house.
