ATV's on Wenatchee and Okanogan FS Roads.
« on: March 12, 2014, 01:25:36 PM »
Just got a letter from my club president stating that the powers in those 2 areas have allowed street legal ATV/UTV's on all motorized roads. Double, triple check with them first, so you won't get a ticket. It's about time, so DON'T screw it up. We've been working very hard for years to get these opened up. You have to BE STREET LEGAL, inspected and have the license plate. If you're NOT INSPECTED, you'll get a citation.

Lawsuit charged county had violated law in allowing ATVs to use roads
By Marcy Stamper

The Okanogan County commissioners have completely repealed two county ordinances adopted last year that opened hundreds of miles of roads around the county to ATVs.

I think that is just for that area only and is about the 35 mph county roads. This is from Conservation Northwest doing it, I believe.

The commissioners are fixing the language from what I understand.

Speaking of ATV's and roads...check this out from SAWS Washington on a forest circus plan.....Blewett area.

WA SAWS members,

SAWS recently received notification about the Swauk Pine Restoration Project near Liberty WA, just east of Cle Elum). As usual, it seems the Forest Service (FS) has embedded road closures into another restoration project, possibly to hide the fact that this is more than just a forest restoration project???

In this particular project, 23 miles of roads are proposed for closures.

Please submit a comment letter by May 1, 2014 to the FS District Ranger, c/o John Agar, Interdisciplinary Team Leader, in one of the following ways. Also send a copy to SAWS if you are willing to let us share some of your comments with our WA SAWS members so that they can review and possibly reuse some of the information from your letter.

Submit electronic comments to FS-comments-pacificnorthwest-wenatchee-cleelum. Please write “Scoping for Swauk Pine Restoration” in the subject line. Those submitting electronic comments must do so only to this e-mail address and must either submit comments as part of the e-mail message or as an attachment only in one of the following three formats:

Microsoft Word, rich text format (rtf), or Adobe Portable Document format (pdf). E-mails submitted to other e-mail addresses or in other formats than those listed here or containing viruses will be rejected. It is the responsibility of all individuals and organizations to ensure their comments are received in a timely manner. For electronically mailed comments, the sender should normally receive an automated electronic acknowledgement from the agency as confirmation of receipt. If the sender does not receive an automated acknowledgement of the receipt of the comments, it is the sender’s responsibility to ensure timely receipt by other means.

Submit hard copy letters by U.S. Mail or hand delivery to the Cle Elum Ranger Station, 803 West 2nd Street, Cle Elum, WA 98922. Hand-delivered comments must be made during regular office hours (8:00am to 12:30pm, and 1:15pm to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday except legal holidays).

Since when were you never allowed to use a street legal ATV on forest service roads in these areas anyway. Example...motorcycle with head light, turn signals, break light, mirrors, lics. plate, muffler ect. Any street legal vehicle has always been allowed on any FS road that is open to street legal motorized vehicles unless otherwise posted. I'm not understanding the celebration please enlighten me :dunno: it's always good to learn something new or not.

The state of WA would not recognize a OHV as street legal, even with all the proper gear, until now.

Yep, its time to get the wife's Rancher a license plate! We always drove 8-12 hours to Oregon to go ride in peace without breaking the law, now we get to go 3-5 hours and have some fun locally, maybe seeing what the area has in store for us!

Its great over here, for now.  Lots of roads and trails to ride, you can even take your atv on paved roads in town if it is properly licensed.  However I wonder how long it will be before people ruin it.  Lots of people don't respect closed roads and trails, eventually they will have to step in as parents and take away the freedoms we enjoy so much right now.  A few bad apples always ruin it for everyone else.
