Looking for opinions of the Browning X-Bolt
« on: March 19, 2014, 06:09:22 PM »
I sent my Winchester mod70 7mm WSM "coyote" in for factory work,  the holes in the top of the receiver were out of alignment. After a month and a half I got a call telling me they would not fix it. I was told to pick out a new Browning or Winchester, unfortunately Winchester no longer makes anything in 7mm WSM.  I have a ton of reloading components and am considering a Browning.   I would like your thoughts.

How about you ask them to mount your 7 wsm barrel on a new action?

They will only replace it.  I'm gonna try like heck to buy or see if I can keep the barrel.

I was really eyeballing the .375's both Winchester and Browning, since I drew an Alaska moose tag this year.   But its nothing my .338 won't handle.

Good plan.  You'll likely come across a good inexpensive action sooner than later to put the barrel on.
Good luck on  your moose hunt!  That 338 fits the bill for certain.

For what it's worth, my cousin has an xbolt in 280 and while I'm a Winchester guy, I secretly covet that gun.  Super slick bolt, very well balanced.  Points excellent.

I've had 2 X-bolts. I just sold the .338 to fund my recent Sako purchase, but kept the 300 WSM (it's my wife's rifle). I love them. The fit is perfect for me, they just pull up nice, has a fairly smooth action, and Both mine shot well. I'd definitely go fondle one if I were you.

I have the x-bolt in 338 also and love it. Shoots great and will do everything I want to do with it.

I'd take a Browning over a Winchester any day. Had an ABolt 7WSM that I should have held on to, solid 3/4 MOA rifle with factory ammo. Better groups were 3/4" @ 200 yards and 2" @ 400 yards.

I am in this same boat.  Next to Sako, I think Browning X-Bolts are the bee's knees.  (I never liked the A-Bolts, however.)  Very reasonably priced, very well made.

:) I like em, I think they are far better gun then the A bolt. I would not say words like "best" or compare to Sako, but I like them. Magazine is WAY better than A bolt. I like the bolt release button.
It is the first Browning rifle produced in many years that  I will definitly look at when making my next big game rifle purchase.
