257 weatherby hand loads?
« on: March 20, 2014, 08:38:11 PM »
Hey guys I just bought a 257 wby mark V ultra light.  Does anyone have some favorite loads for the 257 wby?  I'm thinking of trying out a 90 gr GMX or a 100 gr Barnes ttsx.  Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I bought 100 grn Spitzers because they're cheap, $35 a box ish, so I can reload them with better projectiles in the future.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

RL22, work up to 72 grains with 100 grain TSX or TTSX.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

I liked IMR4350 with the 100gr Ballistic Tips in a .257 Arnold Magnum, very similar to the Weatherby. I have also used RL19. The load flat smoked Mulies!

I would look hard at 7828 behind the Barnes. Should be ablt to squeek 3500 fps and be an elk killer for sure. Powder worked it in a 270 weatherby!

I've loaded most of my 257 with 4350, don't have my exact load data with me at the moment, sorry.

I use a max load of 7828 SSC with just about every bunker, seated to book COAL.  Minor powder variations don't seem to make any difference, and overall length doesn't either. It just shoots.

Given the speed I like the Barnes.

I need just one more hunt and I'll be satisfied ... Really! Just one more...

That's a lot of powder behind a 100 gr bullet. RL22 works great in my 27" Pacnor barreled 25-06AI. 61.0 gr sends a 100 gr SMK out at 3575 fps. Sure knocks the snot out of coyotes.  :hello:

Here are a couple of my most recent loads, getting her dialed in now. It's amazing what a bedding job did to this rifle. These groups are shooting a Berger 115 VLD hunting bullet.
