Year-round wolf hunting on private land approved

LEWISTON, Idaho — Wolf-hunting season will be open 365 days a year on private property in northern Idaho's Clearwater Region.

The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/OIIejp) that the Fish and Game Commission made the rule change in the last week as part of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game's 2014 Big Game Hunting Rules Package.

The commission also moved up the opening of wolf-trapping season in the Lolo and Selway zones.

The commission in 2012 approved year-round wolf hunting on private land in the Panhandle Region. Adding the Clearwater Region means wolf hunting on most private land from the Canadian border to the Salmon River is legal in Idaho.

On private land, the IFG guy told me yesterday, if it's agricultuable land, then yes, from what I understood him right. He said hunters killed 200 wolves in the 2013 season. I told him that out state is ran by CNW. I saw him at the Big  Horn show in Spokane yesterday.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

WDFW and Wa. state legislators can all read ( or can they ? ).  That brings me to the point of not fathoming their wolf plan.  For  the life of me, I will never understand these moronic idiots.  ( Lets throw the wdfw commissioners in there also )

As if everyone doesnt already know where this is going, but in their stupidity, they continue to think they are deceiving us.  Id rather they came out and admitted their intentions so as to maybe look less ignorant.

But hey, what the heck, its working with the majority again, so in their eyes, they are succeeding............

I think it would. You might verify with IDFG before hunting timber company lands.

That brings up some interesting questions?

1. Is most timber land in Idaho open to the public or is gated off like it is any many parts of Washington?

2. What are timber company rules about firearms and ammo on their lands in Idaho? I can say with some certainty that Weyerhaeuser fires people regularly if they bring guns and ammo along in their cars and lowers the boom on those breaking the rules in areas they don't want weapons in not to mention people, even in season.

This will be an interesting one to watch. Wolves are not inherently bad for timber growers, deer and elk on the other hand can be.

That could be helpful then. One of the things I've been wondering about here on the west side is how wolf hunting/control would work. Without timber companies opening the land up to it they would be near impossible to curtail...and I really have to wonder if the companies would want rid of them very badly. It would not surprise me if they have quietly lobbied in support of wolves behind the scenes.

Timber companies in Idaho are not FOR wolves. Many are wide open to the public without a permit although gates are locked in certain areas. Iep is the only one i am aware of making you buy a permit
