Goal for Fish
« on: March 29, 2014, 11:55:39 AM »
This year with the updated and improved Lady Becky ll my goal for the freezer, and canned fish is,,,100lbs each of sea bass, ling cod, and Cabazon. As for salmon a hundred pounds for canning, plus in the freezer in steaks, roast, and fillets. That just might do for the winter

So what are y'alls goals??

I almost forgot the most important, CRABS as many as I can get when I hit the coast  6 per day X how ever many days I can get down there.

That sounds good.  I was figuring this out the other day.  I kind of came up with a minimum of 12 for nookies.  (1 fish->2 fillets-->3 lbs/fillet-->nook once a week)  Then get a few silvers in the fall and some steelies as a little extra...didn't try to add them up.  Figure a couple trips for rockies/lings--try to get about 30 lbs.  If possible about 6 tuna.

Tired of smoked fish, tired of canned, and tired of frozen. Fresh is the only way to go. Hoping to have more time to fish so I can only eat fresh fish :chuckle:

I just want to catch a springer! I didn't get one last year and haven't had GOOD fishing for about 3 years now. Things aren't looking too great so far for this season either. Only 1 day on the water but nothing to show for it. I miss the days of good water conditions and limits for a weekend the norm. I don't can any fish, I eat them fresh and put fillets in the freezer. I'd give up all my summer salmon to have springer success like I used to!  It'd be worth it to!

You better add some halibut to that list also.
Do you can the rock fish, ling and cabbies?

I have canned some once, but didn't care for it. I normally freeze them in water. That way they taste just as fresh as the day they get frozen.

Can't believe the E-wardens on here haven't jumped you for posting about wanting to break the law  :chuckle:

With the Fall run that is forecasted, I hope to break the 40lb mark with a Columbia River Chinook

What? :dunno:

I'm guessing he's bringing up the idea of "processed form" possession limits  :dunno:

By bringing it up does that qualify someone as an e-warden :dunno:

Possession limits only apply while in the field or in transit. No mention of how much fish you can have in your home freezer.

That's the way it's always been. There are processed possession limits that add frozen/canned/etc. to the regular possession limit- but those only apply until you actually get the fish to permanent/home storage.

As I mentioned "Putting fish in the freezer, and canned. Never mentioned any possession limit. I have all summer to gain my goal.

Besides do I care about the E- Warden's.  There's always someone who wants to put a damper on somebody's fishing fun.

I don't know, but I bought a steelhead (farmed) at Costco this weekend.  Shame on me right?   Well the wife says, why don't we buy a boat and go catch some fresh fish. :yike: :yike: :yike: :o  I'm still puckering a little.
