Any reason to bring my quad to NE corner this spring?
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:31:57 PM »
I've never hunted in this area, so I was hoping someone would tell me if there is any roads or trails that are atv accessible, and are they places that are good to hunt for spring turkeys?

I dont really think a quad is essential turkey gear.................unless of course you just want to do some riding and scouting.

We mostly use our trucks for turks as it can still be pretty cold in the pre-dawn mornings getting to and fro.....Easier to drink a cup of coffee in a truck too.   :twocents:

Good info. I don't really want to bring it. That way I don't have to babysit the thing everywhere I go. I just didn't want to end up needing it and leave it back on the west side.

Thanks for the info.

ALL of the Kanisku National Forest in NE WASHINGTON STATE on the Idaho/Washington line is open to ATV riding. Idaho controls it and they don't have a problem using them. BE SURE it's licensed in WASHINGTON STATE and you're good to go. Have your plate or stickers attached along with your registration. Call Idaho about insurance. I forget if you need it or it's recommended. Mine are insured...... You can go behind locked gates if it's 50 inches or less too. At least we've always been told we can. You might wanna find out about that too for sure. We do with zero problems.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Roads were still pretty messy this weekend, and higher elevation roads were very nasty.  Got to be carful as they  are still frozen and passable early in the morning but thawing into muddy impassable messes in the afternoon.  Birds are starting to break out of their winter flocks, but still quite a few bunched up around their usual winter hangouts.  Very noisy on the roost and saw a few groups broken off and moving on.  Did'nt see any birds up high yet as it has not greened out yet, but they should be pretty well moved on by the opener. I wouldn't bother to haul a quad over, but I'd be lerry getting off the road very far in the early mornings.

Most County roads in Stevens County are open to ATV's. Most City streets in Chewelah are open to ATV's, I haven't looked up Colville yet. Do a Google search on your hunting area.
