Sockeye in Sekiu

Looking for some tips on how to fish for Sockeye in the salt. Will be fishing out of Sekiu and have never fished for them before. Any info would be great. Thanks

Oh yeah they will. The problem is finding them in a large enough concentration to target them properly. Most of the ones I've caught in the salt have been bi-catch. Use the same rigs you would in Lake WA. white dodgers/red hooks or little mini squids. Again, the challenge will be targeting them specifically.

With 23 million expected to return to the Frasier this year, I think there will be decent numbers caught up there. Are they a shallow running fish like a coho or deeper running like a king?  I have never fished for Sockeye so I need to get some gear for them. A white flasher and small mini squid? I will pick some up. Thanks for the advice.

I've always had better luck with the bare red hooks than the mini squid.
If you tie your own, I do a double hook set-up (like a mooching rig) with a tiny pink or red chrome corky between the hooks.
White or chrome dodger (think old school herring dodger not a hot spot flasher)
And troll dead slow, that may be the most important thing, you want the dodger just rocking side to side not spinning

I have seen quite a few people fishing right in front of the caves just using a dodger and either red or blue hooks to catch silvers also

I fished Cambell River once when there were a ton around.  We whacked them on little pink mini-squids.  I also got a nice 30 lbs king, so there is a chance for a mixed bag.
