Well, I finally got back into the shop this week after being gone for 4 weeks, caring for my mother.  Those who have orders in with me, they are in progress  

This one is a design that I came up with for someone, but they were unable to go through with the purchase, but I like it so much I had to build it anyway.  Once done I will probably sell it.

Blade is 4.25"
handle is 4.625"
OAL is 8.75"

spine is .180" thick and once heat treated will be a full flat grind.  Not sure what I will use for scales. maybe some burl or rosewood or 

Anyway, it's nice to be able to do a little work again and get caught up, maybe.

I like your knifes alot ,seeing them on here is what made me to wanna make my own.If you dont mind me asking what kinda tool are you useing to create your edge cut into the blade is it like a belt sander type cause im stuck in the stone age over here useing a flat file.And it makes alot of scraches if u get to crazy and do u have any tricks for getting scaches and buffing them to shine good.Ya your new design looks great.Wish i coulnd make mine look like that.Like how yours has finger grips cut into it and makeing the wood scales gotta be hard.

I use a 2x42 belt grinder to profile the blades and for the initial bevel.  I start with a 60 grit belt and go to 220 before heat treat.  After heat treat I clean up the bevels with the 320 grit belt then hand sand everything to 2000 grit.  If I'm doing an etched blade, I only sand to 500 grit.  The scales are all epoxied and pinned and then hand shaped with sandpaper.  Not sure how many hours it takes to complete one knife, but I always like to give myself at least a month to complete one, cause it is just a hobby you know

Heat Treat done today, started to do the hand finish work, almost ready for scales.  Not sure what I will use yet.


This one is one being done that was a collaboration between the purchaser and myself.  We would send sketches back and forth via e-mail until we agreed on this design.
The handle will be buffalo horn bolster and tiger stripe cocobolo.  It is hand sanded to 1000 grit and waiting for scales at this point.

What would it cost for one like shown above but just a blade with no wood handle on it? Plus the sheath. Been thinking of doing one with a para cord wrap handle.

Putting the finish on.  A few coats of true oil and then it'll be done.

I would like to build knives for myself. I had the opportunity to meet Bruce Bump not long ago and see some of the stuff that he made. Watched a friend make a knife from a leaf spring. It looks fun and I would like to make 3 identical knives, One for my dad, my brother, and myself.
