Couple of decent .270 groups

Saturday my father and I shot about 50 rounds each trying to find some accurate hand loads for our M70 .270s. We shot 3 different bullet weights and 3 different powders. I did not have enough brass to hit all possible combinations that we could have, but we were able to narrow down and eliminate some combinations.

I was able to find a combination of 160gr Nosler Partitions that grouped 3 shots at 1 inch.
160gr bullet
46gr Accurate 4350
WLR primer
COAL 3.300

We both found combinations of 150gr Hornady Interlock that grouped under and inch.

270s are boring! You're lucky that an accurate gun in a boring caliber is still worth owning.

I didn't realize that Nosler made a 160 Partition in .277". Now I'm intrigued! Maybe I need to give the 270 a little more credit!

I like the .270 160gr Partition. I watched my brother take a Mulie a ways out with the combo, 503 yards if I recall correctly. Complete pass through, deer made it maybe three bounds steep down hill and it was over.

Wow .. good job ..but my only problem with this is if you want to shoot such heavy bullets from a .270 you should go to a 30 cal ..  awesome group though

 I generally shoot 130gr and have killed numerous deer, bear and elk with them but thought it would be fun to try something different.

Looks like those 150 hornady bullets are doing pretty good. Not bad groups at all. I can run those 160 PT,s at 2820 and hold just under an inch at 100 yrds. For elk at short to medium range I would think they would be a deep penetrating bullet. When I find them on shelf I,m going buy some more.

That is good shooting . i wish i could still see and hold still . I have a good load for my m 70 that produces good results on game and on paper . In the reloading room is a 100 yd 4 shot group I strive for at the range. I haven't shot any elk with this load as I use other things for them but the deer don't complain much. The load is 61.5 grains h 4831, std winchester primer and 130 hornady bullet. If you use this load watch your pressures. What bullets do you prefer for bears and elk as the 150 partitions pencil hole and have given us a couple of close calls when the range is with in a stones throw.?
