mechanical broadheads
« on: April 12, 2014, 10:17:24 PM »
I thought I read the wdfw pamphlet from cover to cover. I cant find anywhere where it says we cant use mechanical broadheads for turkeys. Can anyone tell me where it says we can or cant. All it says it we cant use for big game. Turkeys, last time I looked were listed as an upland game bird.

Whoops, actually they are not listed under upland birds, they are just listed along with small game.

Legal for turkeys and other small game, just not big game yet.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

Does it say it anywhere, or are we suppose to assume, because it doesn't say we arnt? It sounds like it is the way to go, just to make sure the turkey doesn't fly....much!

Archery Regulations
Section 1 - Rules pertaining to all archery hunting seasons:
Subsection H - It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with a retractable broadhead.

This was available, it appears, less than 24 hours ago.  Not sure why it is no longer available on the WDFW site.

He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Yes, they are legal, it falls under big game regs and not small game, and yes to the question, if it is NOT in the regs than it IS legal. that from the Mouth of Dave Ware years ago. Only difference is that cannot use them during fall seasons for they coincide with fall Big game seasons. Can't issue specifics other than those are from response I have received from WDFW over the years concerning this subject.
