Montana 318 for Muleys??????
« on: April 21, 2014, 04:15:10 AM »
Hey guys, I hate to admit i screwed up but I did and I applied for and drew 318 instead of 312. I have not spent anytime over there but I am planning a couple trips over between now and season. Has anyone on here ever hunted this tag and willing to share some insight? Thanks in advance

I hunted Elk in Unit 392 other side of Helena I saw a huge mullie but my deer tag wasn't good for that area so let it pass that being said their aren't very many deer in the unit I hunted the local said way to many cougars but not sure about 318? but if you go wait tell the very end of season

Thanks chiefeng, I plan on hunting the last part of season since the other states I hunt usually end mid november. I may try a archery hunt in there as well after talking to the local biologist yesterday, She said the unit is a sleeper and a few guys that know how to hunt it are successful year after year. Im going to head over there next week and do some spring bear hunting and get a feel for the land. sounds like having good horses will be to my benefit  :chuckle:

Im not to sure about deer in MT, I have been trying to draw 312 for awhile but i guess I will be waiting awhile longer  :chuckle: I have heard that the custer NF has some great hunting. I have a strong love/hate with mt and there seasons the long season through the rut sure has made harvesting a mature muley difficult in allot of areas. but damn I love hunting them in the rut  :chuckle: . Wish i had better advice for ya

If I was not bring my son along I would have put in for the 250 unit supposed to be the best trophy potential in MT.
