I've been seeing one lone cow heading east on 20 just before Winthrop on the right side for a few years now. Blew me away the first time. And now it seems she is almost always out in that field.

If that is the cow that is hanging out at the Big Valley Ranch area she is the lone survivor of a herd of 6 that got wiped out in one year about 8 years ago.  WDFW doesn't want elk here because of the "Orchardists"

that lone cow has been there for a very long time ..I think I have video of her from 10 yrs ago .. she must be a very old cow ... :dunno: never seen any other elk with her and if I recall it has always been in the spring when I am headed over turkey hunting ...

THere has been a cow in that "spot" for about 8 years now.   Theres been a bigger herd north of her, but she seems to like it there.

Just read your post BH45.   Yep, weird how she is always there.

Yea I've heard about her being down in that big valley wildlife area before . Just never seen her . The pics I posted she was up off west chewuch rd. I looked for a while to see if she had any other elk with her but she was def alone with some muleys.

She ranges from the Rendevous, Riser lake down to hwy 20  a lot.    Most of her nearest Brethern are up towards Sweetgrass.   I saw a really good bull in Andrews before it burned.

As that place brushes up from all the burns, the moose have been really taking off.   They can winter it better than the elk.

Seen elk sign in the very picture posted back in 1996 when I lived there.  Elks sheds found not far away by another.  They have been around but few and far between..
