Rooster Crowing
« on: April 14, 2014, 03:37:59 PM »
On my morning walk I heard 2 maybe a 3rd rooster crowing.  The dog was already wound up from seeing some squirrels.  The roosters got her jacked to the next level... only to see a coyote trying to find one.  Ahh early spring mornings...

Awesome.
Does anyone have a decent recording of a pheasant cackle?

One of the coolest sounds of spring for sure. That was one of my favorite "bonuses" of turkey hunting in Colville was the crowing roosters cruising the hills looking for ladies. This year only having one rooster in the pens has significantly reduced the crowing around here. Thanks for the reminder .

Plenty of crowing sound files to be found via googling.

Did the walk later this morning as my wife went with us.  Walking past the same field a pair of Honkers were feeding, Bella was just watching them.  Somewhere in the distance a rooster crowed, and she wound up got excited and started scanning for movement etc.

She is going to be 6 this year and I was hoping to make a trip to SD but I fear the long cold winter put a hurting to the birds? Otherwise I might delay deer hunting a week to hit the opener.  I have a spot that has lots of bird, only issue my access requires significant walk.

I would bet it will be tough year in SD in 2014.  I went in 2012 and compared to here it was good but we hunted pretty hard to get our birds.  The place we stayed at said last season was even worse.  It's going to take a few years for it to rebound I think.

I guess some areas still have good numbers.  We were in the SW corner near Martin.
