1964 Weatherby 257 Wby Mag Vanguard V - Help
« on: April 22, 2014, 09:48:15 AM »
I am probably asking in the wrong area, but needed a little advice.  I have a friend that is looking to sell me a 1964 Weatherby 257 Mag.  I trying to figure out what a fair price is to offer him.  He isn't sure either.  Any old Weatherby experts out there?  I would appreciate the help.  Thanks.

I'm not sure what Vanguard's of that vintage are worth. Try looking up similar guns on www.gunbroker.com

Thanks for the tip, but I did check out the site.  Nothing in that era to compare with.

What is the serial number on the gun? Are you positive it was a 1964 model?

Wiki says they did not offer the vanguard until 1970 if your gun was made in 1964 it is probably a mark V. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weatherby

Heres a link to the dates of manufacture http://www.weatherbycollectors.com/wbydata/wbydata.pdf It appears your gun is not a vanguard which is a good thing.

Not only is it a Mark V, it is a German model, which is worth way more. In 257 Mag,  it's probably worth about $1,700-$2,000, depending on what condition it is in. Post some pictures of it.

I had a Mark V .300 Weatherby made in west Germany in 1960's. I sold it for $2100 about 5 years ago.

I tried to get it posted but the pics aren't working for me.  It looks to be in good shape.  little loss of blue around the muzzle.  Varnish is still nice with only a few nicks.  It has the original butt pad and original scope still.  And an original box of 1964 ammo.

Guy will let me have it for 800.  I think I will grab it.

Yeah, wish I could find a deal like that. Let me know if you don't end up buying it.

I bought it. Looking forward to shooting it in the near future.  Not looking forward to buying ammo for it.  I forgot Weatherby uses gold instead of brass.
